After a breakthrough role in “Joint Security Area” (2000) from director Park Chan-wook, beloved actor Lee Byung Hun broke onto the South Korean cinema scene. He quickly took roles in television movies such as “Beautiful Days” (2001) and “All In” (2023) as well as the romantic drama “Bungee Jumping of Their Own” (2001). Rising in popularity, he starred in “Bittersweet Life” (2005) and “The Good, the Bad, the Weird” (2008), both from filmmaker Kim Jee-woon. Lee Byung Hun made his Hollywood debut with the movie “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” (2009) and in the same year starred alongside Josh Hartnett in “I Come with the Rain” (2009) from Vietnamese director Tran Anh Hung. Reuniting with Kim Jee-won, he had a leading role in “I Saw the Devil” (2010) and returned to Hollywood to star in “Red 2” (2013) opposite Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, and more. Lee starred in a dual role in the period drama “Masquerade” (2012), which won him much praise. He went on to appear in “Terminator Genisys” (2015) before another acclaimed performance in the R-rated political thriller “Inside Men” (2015). Lee continued to move between South Korean cinema and Hollywood with roles in “Misconduct” (2016) and “The Magnificent Seven” (2016) as well as South Korean movies like “Master” (2016) and “Single Rider” (2017). He reasserted his box office power with leading roles in films such as “The Man Standing Next” (2020) and “Emergency Declaration" (2021). He starred as Front Man in the Netflix series “Squid Game” (2021–2025) as well as the series “Our Blues” (2022). He reunited with Park Chan-wook for the satirical comedy “No Other Choice” (2025) and remains of South Korea’s most celebrated actors.
