Known for his filmmaking efforts alongside his brother Benny, Josh Safdie is an acclaimed writer, director, and producer. His career began with the drama “The Pleasure of Being Robbed” (2008), which he directed, starred in, and wrote alongside lead star Eleonore Hendricks. He teamed up with his brother Benny for the comedy-drama “Daddy Longlegs” (2009), which was their first credit as the filmmaking duo, the Safdie brothers. They teamed up again to direct the sports documentary “Lenny Cooke” (2013). The pair went on to helm the psychological drama “Heaven Knows What” (2014), which tackles the themes of addiction and homelessness. Continuing an interest in the dark underbelly of society, the Safdie brothers directed “Good Time” (2017), starring Robert Pattinson, which competed for the Palme d’Or at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. They went on to direct Adam Sandler in the critically lauded “Uncut Gems” (2019), which marked their final directorial effort as a duo. As a solo filmmaker, Josh Safdie went on to direct Adam Sandler’s Netflix comedy special “Adam Sandler: Love You” (2024), and he wrote and directed the sports comedy drama “Marty Supreme” (2025) starring Timothée Chalamet. Josh Safdie has also acted as a producer for television shows such as “The Curse” (2023), “Telemarketers” (2023), “Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God” (2023), and “Ren Faire” (2024).
