What Happened At The End Of ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 1, Episode 6?

Widow’s Bay Season 1, Episode 6, “Our History,” ended with Richard Warren bound and ready to be buried by his people in 1702. This comes after his wife, Sarah, gave him some sort of elixir to knock him out. She then took his children, Thomas, John, Cromwell, Holyoke, and Francis, to make their escape from the island on a merchant vessel.

As Richard is about to be buried, he reveals to the townspeople standing around him that he made a pact with a god on the island during their first winter as a means of survival, and that the only way to stop the horrors on the island is through sacrifice. Without sacrifice, the horrors continue and deepen. It’s then that the townspeople tell him that his children are escaping the island, leading Richard to panic and say that the island won’t let them go.

Flashforward, and we’re back in 2026. Wyck digs up Richard’s grave. He hits something and declares, “I got it.” The camera pulls back and it ends with a shot of a graveyard, and Wyck’s companions looking down at the hole Wyck made.

Island Lore Revealed In ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 1, Episode 6

Widow’s Bay continued dropping hints as to the mysteries and lore prevalent on the island. To help you keep track of important details, we’ve written all the island lore revealed in Season 1, Episode 6, “Our Trip.”

  • September 16, 1702, is when Sarah Westcott came to Widow’s Bay to become Mrs. Richard Warren, the wife of the founder of the island.

  • Richard Warren used Truesight mushrooms to speak with the entity on the island. During their first winter, he made a pact with it for their survival.

  • During the 1702 plague, the same thing that happened to Shep Clark in Episode 1 happens to others under the disguise of a plague. They are becoming revenants or sacrifices for the island.

  • Sarah discovers a chamber under her house with Richard. It’s the torture chamber we saw that went levels down under the Salty Whale in Episode 1.

  • Richard Warren can’t be killed. The entity on the island won’t let him.

  • Since Richard made the pact, the townspeople born on Widow’s Bay can’t leave.

  • If sacrifices aren’t made, the terrors of the island will continue and deepen.

  • If Richard Warren was buried in 1702 and the present day is 2026, that means that he’s been buried for 324 years.

What Supernatural Things Happened In ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 1, Episode 6?

Sarah Westcott and Richard Warren's church wedding in Widow's Bay

The main supernatural thing that happened in Widow’s Bay Season 1, Episode 6, is the revelation of how the curse began on the island. The island is said to have become bountiful thanks to Richard Warren by the townspeople, but it only happened because during their first winter, Richard ate the Truesight mushrooms and made a deal with the entity on the island.

According to this deal, sacrifice is the only way to stop the horrors on this island and to keep everything right as rain. So, Richard took those missing people that Pastor Collins and the others were fearful of, bringing them underneath his home, and setting them in that chair for whatever entity is below to consume them. The ones who were sick and losing their minds were revenants.

Flash forward, and it’s easy to connect the dots with the fact that Richard is still alive when Wyck is digging up his grave. Knives couldn’t kill him. Time wouldn’t either because he made a pact with the entity. My question is, what did the entity tell Tom when it spoke to him in Episode 5? Because if an entity like that picked Richard because he wanted the best for his people, the same can be said for Tom, and maybe that’s why he was chosen.

Then there’s the torture chamber underneath the Warren home. Those doors were made of wood, and the tunnels weren’t refined. Flash forward to 2026, and we see those doors made of iron, with concrete passages and lights. So, it begs the question, in the 300+ years that Richard was buried, who kept the tradition of sacrifice going and upgraded the chamber?
