Widow’s Bay Season 1, Episode 2, “Lodging,” sees Tom heading to a creepy inn to prove to the townspeople that the island isn’t haunted because the piece that Arthur wrote for The New York Times in Season 1, Episode 1 was a success and tourists are coming. This leads the townspeople to take action as a means of trying to save lives.

But how does Widow’s Bay Season 1, Episode 2, end? And what about all the island lore that was randomly dropped throughout the episode? We’ve put it all together with an additional section on whether this new evidence verifies that the island is actually supernatural. Either way, we’re on a journey when it comes to this Apple TV show!

What Happened At The End Of ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 1, Episode 2?

Widow’s Bay Season 1, Episode 2, ends with major revelations about Tom’s night in the inn. After the townspeople challenge him to stay at the inn to prove there is nothing to fear when it comes to the tourists staying there, Tom does just that. And he spends the night checking off all the supposed hauntings of the inn with no jumpscares or spooky things happening. But toward the end of his stay, he encounters William, and they spend the night talking and playing games.

When William and Tom say goodnight, the latter goes into the basement to enter the crawl space and check off the final haunting on the list. William appears at the opening of the crawl space and offers Tom assistance. Tom denies needing help, and William crawls in anyway, revealing himself to be the clown killer. This leads to Tom panicking, backing up against a wall, and seeing a desiccated body with a shirt that matches his own.

In the next scene, Tom wakes up in his bed, leading the viewer to believe it was an alcohol-fueled nightmare. Things only get worse for Tom when he gets the sheriff involved, only to learn that there was no William on the video camera that Kurt gave him. That’s when Wyck appears and warns Tom and Kurt about the island again. Kurt tries to prove everyone wrong by staying in the Captain’s Suite. But things don’t go as planned, as he experiences 10 seconds and 30 seconds differently from the men who are outside of the Captain’s Suite.

When the door opens, the window is broken, and things are knocked over, signaling that something traumatic happened in that room. The sheriff then discovers that there is mold behind the wallpaper, and Kurt promises to fix it. Wyck warns them again that they shouldn’t let tourists stay there. And the ending implies that Tom accepted Kurt’s promise to fix the inn and that the tourists are coming anyway.

What Island Lore Dropped In ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 1, Episode 2?

Widow’s Bay continued dropping hints as to the mysteries and lore prevalent on the island. To help you keep track of important details, we’ve written all the island lore revealed in Season 1, Episode 2, “Lodging.”

  • The inn that is fully booked for new tourists is allegedly haunted.

  • The Captain’s Suite at the inn is where he allegedly lost his mind and then killed his family with an axe.

  • The legend of “The Ungrateful Hortense Fitzgerald” also happened at the inn. According to the townspeople, she was an ugly woman who fled her wedding. She backed through a window and fell to her death. And if you say “ugly Hortense” three times, you will see her ungrateful reflection.

  • On New Year’s Eve, in 1962, there was a disaster where they found John Reynold’s head in the dumbwaiter.

  • The clown killer of ‘51 was a murderer who dressed as a clown. Clues suggest he killed locals, with the crawlspace under the inn one of his spots.

  • The inn has a creepy painting of a boat full of people and a child struggling in the waves.

  • The church bell rang in the middle of the night. But the bell is chained.

  • The priest finds a letter that says, “To the Rector of the Church. I pray that this burden will never fall to you. But should the bell toll, there are steps you must take.”

  • Disturbing games in the inn include: Daddy’s Home!, She Shouldn’t Have Said That, Teeth, and Run.

  • Through the vents at the inn, Tom could hear the piano playing, people saying “Happy New Year!” and then screaming.

  • Despite sharing drinks, conversation, and playing a game, William isn’t an actual person. He’s the ghost of the ‘51 clown killer.

  • All the channels are the “Welcome to Widow’s Bay” video. But one channel had something tall and black ominously standing in the distance.

  • When Kurt enters the Captain’s Suite, it’s implied that he lost time in the room.

Is ‘Widow’s Bay’ Actually Cursed By The Supernatural?

As of Season 1, Episode 2, of Widow’s Bay, there’s still no concrete evidence that the island is actually cursed or haunted by the supernatural. The townspeople have a wide range of stories about the local inn and how it’s haunted. Tom himself experiences what seems like a terrifying encounter with William, the clown killer of ’51. However, this could be a non-supernatural encounter due to the fact that Kurt revealed there was no one else with Tom in the video taken. Also, Tom says that he believes that the only thing that the island is cursed with is alcoholism, and he just spent the night drinking. So could it be the supernatural? Or is he experiencing what his father did later on in his life?

There’s also what happened to Kurt at the end of this episode to take into consideration when it comes to the inn possibly being haunted. Kurt enters the Captain’s Suite and questions why the sheriff, Wyck, and Tom took so long to open the door. It’s implied that the time Kurt spent in the room does not match the time outside of it. But it could also be due to the black mold that is found, as it can cause hallucinations or a spectrum of psychotic responses according to the Neuroscience Research Institute. This could also explain Tom’s hallucinations as he slept there, and Kurt’s hesitance as he owns the inn and spends a lot of time there.

But one thing is very clear by the end of Widow’s Bay Season 1, Episode 2, Tom is feeling the creeping sense of something being wrong on the island—and he’s ignoring it.

A skeptical mayor leads the superstitious residents of a cursed New England island.
