‘Josie And The Pussycats’ At 25: Where Is The Cast Now?
There's something about fictional bands that have a way of staying with us, even if we forget a large portion of the rest of the movie. There's the "Oneders" in That Thing You Do! (1996), the titular band in Daisy Jones & the Six (2023), and, of course, the original Riverdale girly pops, Josie and the Pussycats. The iconic musical film turns 25 this year, and while it's definitely imperfect and certain narrative choices are undoubtedly problematic, it's still a delight to revisit.
It's especially fun to look back at the cast and see how far a lot of them have come, even if they've stepped away from the spotlight. If you're wondering where the cast of Josie and the Pussycats has been since 2001, we've got you covered with some of the best shows and movies to watch them in today.
Rachael Leigh Cook as Josie McCoy
At the time Josie and the Pussycats was released, Rachael Leigh Cook was a prominent name on the heels of movies like She's All That (1999). Afterwards, she went on to guest star in a number of popular TV shows like Psych (2006), Titan Maximum (2009), Ghost Whisperer (2005), and more. She's been in a few smaller movies here and there, but she's also one of the best actors when it comes to Hallmark movies.
And here's the thing: Hallmark movies aren't everyone's jam, nor should they be, but when Cook and her charisma are present, they're utterly delightful. She was most recently in Caught by Love (2026) and was also in the She's All That remake, He's All That (2021).
One to watch: If you want a cozy romantic escape, try the Vineyard trilogy, starting with Autumn in the Vineyard (2016).
Tara Reid as Melody Valentine
Tara Reid has continued to make small appearances here and there, as well as her return to American Pie (1999) in American Reunion (2012), but she's also had a significant recurring role in Scrubs (2001), which may be one of her best to date. Reid was also in the Sharknado (2013) franchise, with her usual quirky persona shining through and making her a star people wanted to see more of.
Funnily enough, she's also in a teeny tiny guest role on Ghosts (2021) because one of them is so obsessed with her, he never lets anyone forget her iconic presence in the early aughts. Reid's bubbly performance is ultimately a reason why she continues to have such memorable roles, even if they're small.
One to watch: If you love campy shark movies, check out Sharknado for the one that will stay with you in every way.
Rosario Dawson as Valerie Brown
Rosario Dawson is perhaps the most well-known actress from the actual band today, with big roles like in Ahsoka (2023), as well as her incomparable work in Rent (2005). The star's ability to ensure that everything she does stands out from where we've seen her is no small feat.
Dawson was also in the original Daredevil (2015), and it was her incredible performance there that really proved she should be doing more in the fantasy-action realm. Dawson has also dabbled in great voice work in films like The Lego Batman Movie (2017), proving that her range really is boundless. We also have confirmation that Ahsoka will return, so it's great to know that there will be more projects from Dawson to look forward to.
One to watch: If you love gut-wrenching musicals, try Rent for its found family and heartfelt storytelling.
Parker Posey as Fiona
Parker Posey was already an it girl when she stepped into Fiona's wildly Effie Trinket-like shoes in Josie and the Pussycats, but she's even more iconic today. From Lost in Space (2018) to The White Lotus (2021), she's the type of actress who not only commands every scene she's in, but she can also take the most unlikable characters and somehow make them the most memorable.
It's why Posey's Fiona stood out in Josie and the Pussycats and why Victoria Ratliff will always be one of the most memorable characters in The White Lotus, while we all change the way we say "lorazepam." Posey is the type of actress who's a generational star in more ways than one, so it's a treat that we can continue to see her on our screens.
One to watch: If you love the dry humor in Succession (2018), try The White Lotus for a show that feels like its weird, extended cousin.
Alan Cumming as Wyatt Frame
Like Posey, Alan Cumming is the kind of star you just know. Generational, iconic, and inimitable, even those who aren't typically huge fans of TV and film remember him from the role they've seen him in because his prowess instantly leaves a mark. From shows like The Good Wife (2009) to Schmidgadoon! (2021), Cumming's range is a rare, delightful treat.
In addition to fictional characters, he makes for an exceptional host because, as much as The Traitors (2023) is an interesting premise, it's Cumming who makes it masterful and bold. Cumming is also the reason why the role of Wyatt Frame is so memorable in Josie and the Pussycats, which makes his presence in Hollywood a genuine, inimitable gift today.
One to watch: If you don't love reality TV but appreciate board game-inspired movies like Clue (1985), try The Traitors for a reality game version that'll keep you on the edge of your seat.
Missi Pyle as Alexandra Cabot
Missi Pyle is another face that many people from the industry can recognize and pinpoint at least one movie or TV show they've seen her in. From hits like Galaxy Quest (1999) and Gone Girl (2014), Pyle has been in plenty of properties that have effectively shown off her distinct range and recognizable mannerisms.
Pyle always manages to deliver something fun and memorable to every role she's in, fusing an edge and softness that's always a blast to witness when looking into character layers. With a wide range of characters, she also manages to give us something unique and worthwhile every time.
One to watch: If you love movies that focus on Hollywood, like Babylon (2022), try The Artist (2011).
Gabriel Mann as Alan Mayberry
Mysterious and simultaneously soft, Gabriel Mann's Alan Mayberry is a delight in Josie and the Pussycats, but he's also great at playing characters who are a bit edgy that'll keep you guessing. While Mann hasn't been in a lot of things since the movie, the number of guest roles he's had has been substantial in Mad Men (2007) and Batwoman (2019). There's a magnetism to him that's often present in every role he's in, making that character intriguing in the short time we spend with them.
However, his most memorable role since the movie has been in Revenge (2011), where he played Nolan Ross, one of the few characters we could actually trust. Mann brought so many layers and a plethora of warmth to the character, making him easy to appreciate from start to finish.
One to watch: If you love the messy drama of Big Little Lies (2017), try Revenge for something that's just as compelling.
