What Happened To The Cast Of The Original 'Narnia' Movies?
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) is now 21 years old, with Greta Gerwig's Netflix adaptation right around the corner. Some things from our childhood should stay in the past where they belong, while others, like the Narnia films, could perhaps shine with another adaptation. The belief isn't to say that the originals weren't lovely, but they unfortunately never gained the kind of reception that a fantasy with its scale should have.
Still, it's sweet to look back, especially when we factor in how far the actors have come since starring in it. While Skandar Keynes stopped acting completely, the rest of his siblings have been in a few things here and there. If you're wondering what happened to the original Narnia cast, we've got you covered with their most famous roles since, as well as where you can stream them on Prime Video and more.
Tilda Swinton as Jadis the White Witch
If Tilda Swinton isn't a name casual moviegoers know, then her face and prowess are certainly familiar, even if she looks different because of makeup. Because Swinton is in a number of properties, making a name for herself brilliantly through compelling performances in every role she's in.
From Wes Anderson films like The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) to major MCU flicks like Doctor Strange (2016), Swinton continues to take on roles that give her plenty of room to showcase her incredible range. Few actors command a scene as gorgeously as she does, and everything she's been in since Narnia has been worth watching at least once.
One to watch: If you love gripping vampire series like Interview with the Vampire (2022), try Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) for a deliciously dark love story.
Liam Neeson as Aslan
Most recently, Liam Neeson returned to the big screen in The Naked Gun (2025), but since leaving behind the shoes of Aslan in Narnia, he's been known for his gripping action films. Neeson was also known before from a number of classics, but the first Taken (2008) film took the world by storm with its gripping plot and astute pacing, and the sequel and trilogy that followed are just as great.
Neeson also dove into comic book adaptations, filling the notorious shoes of Ra's al Ghul in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins (2005). He has a ton of solid range, from deeply serious roles to silly ones, making him the kind of actor who's always entertaining to have on our screens.
One to watch: If you like action films like John Wick (2014), try Taken for the kind of plot that'll keep your eyes glued to the screen.
James McAvoy as Mr. Tumnus
At this point, the question we should be asking is, who in the Narnia cast hasn't been in an MCU or DCEU adaptation, because James McAvoy is also one to do so after embodying Mr. Tumnus. But McAvoy has done plenty as well with gorgeous, tragic love stories like Atonement (2007), prequels like X-Men: First Class (2011), and dark, twisted thrillers like Split (2016).
McAvoy is another actor whose range is so astonishing that anytime you watch him in one role, it's easy to forget all the other movies and TV shows you might have seen him in. How he makes every character unique and thoroughly gripping, even if the property itself isn't tremendous, is no small feat.
One to watch: If you love the visuals in Pride and Prejudice (2005), try Atonement to see more of Joe Wright's stunning directing.
Peter Dinklage as Trumpkin
While his role in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) is small, we can still count Peter Dinklage as a Narnia actor who also appeared in the MCU. But really, even if you didn't watch Game of Thrones (2011), there's a good chance you recognize him as Tyrian Lannister, who's undoubtedly one of the best-written characters in the series.
Dinklage is also an actor who's done plenty in the years since he's been active—like Elf (2003) and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)—but the role more people should be talking about is Cyrano (2022). He delivers one of the most memorable performances in a musical to date, embodying the classic character with such stunning heart that it's actually jaw-dropping.
One to watch: If you love heart-wrenching musicals like Les Misérables (2012), watch Cyrano for a story that'll stay with you.
Ben Barnes as Prince Caspian
Though Ben Barnes effortlessly steals hearts as Prince Caspian in the Narnia films, what he also proves throughout his career is that he's astounding at playing a villain. From his dark embodiment of Billy Russo/Jigsaw in The Punisher (2017) to his nuanced portrayal of the Darkling in Shadow and Bone (2021), Barnes can do it all.
But really, what I personally want to see is for him to start in a romance because we can see as clear as day that he's capable of the range necessary to make for a believable hero. Barnes also released original music in the last year, showing that it's not just acting he's great at. So, really, we were all right to root for Prince Caspian when we did.
One to watch: If you like the Harry Potter movies, try Shadow and Bone for a richer exploration of magic.
Anna Popplewell, Georgie Henley, and William Moseley as Susan, Lucy, and Peter Pevensie
While Anna Popplewell's most famous roles are still the Narnia films, she had a substantial role in The CW's Reign (2013). Some actors are simply so well-suited for period pieces that it's actually a great thing she's done more outside of Narnia. In fact, I'd personally love to see her in a historical romance adaptation someday. Popplewell has also been in The Nun II (2023) and is also credited for an upcoming drama, Catch the Wind.
Like her on-screen sister, Georgie Henley has also been in period pieces like The Spanish Princess (2019), and, more recently, in Netflix's The Diplomat (2023). In addition, she has a small role in the miniseries Dirty Business (2026). Henley also has the range and mannerisms necessary to star as period drama heroines, so here's to hoping more from her in the future.
William Moseley has done a bit like his on-screen sisters, but he also hasn't been in a large role since the Narnia films. Recently, he was in a Hallmark romance titled Christmas in Notting Hill (2023), which is pretty entertaining. But also, he was in The Royals (2015), and if you love deliciously wild romances featuring royals and bodyguards with a lot of drama, then look no further.
