First airing in 2005, Everybody Hates Chris is an iconic comedy inspired by Chris Rock’s very own life. The comedian narrated an exaggerated version of him growing up in Brooklyn, New York City, during the ‘80s. And it allegedly acted as a parody of Everybody Loves Raymond (1996).

The titular Chris was played by Tyler James Williams. Terry Crews joined the cast as Chris’ father Julius, Tichina Arnold as his mother Rochelle, Imani Hakim as his sister Tonya, Tequan Richmond as his brother Drew, and Vincent Martella as his best friend Greg.

The beloved sitcom ran for four seasons and had 88 episodes. But what happened to the Everybody Hates Chris cast once the show ended? We catch you up on everything they’ve been up to and where to watch their best roles on platforms like Prime Video, Netflix, and more!

Tyler James Williams (Chris Rock)

Everybody Hates Chris put Tyler James Williams on the map and proved he’s comedic gold as the lead Chris. But he hasn’t stopped diversifying his filmography since the show ended in 2009.

He tried his hand at dark comedy alongside Matthew Perry and Laura Benanti in Go On (2012). And then he took a big swing into the apocalypse as Noah in AMC’s The Walking Dead (2010). He didn’t stop there either as he tried his hand at procedurals in Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders (2016) and the cancelled too soon series Whiskey Cavalier (2019).

But like we said earlier, Williams is comedic gold. That’s why his best role since Everybody Hates Chris is hands down the mockumentary sitcom Abbott Elementary (2021). He plays Gregory, a principal turned substitute teacher turned full-time teacher. Not only is Williams hilarious with his deadpan delivery, his character’s slow-burn romance with Janine is epic and swoon-worthy.

One to Watch: Obviously, Abbott Elementary. There’s seasons worth of laughs to catch up on.

Terry Crews (Julius Rock)

Ever since Terry Crews played the patriarch and penny pincher Julius Rock on Everybody Hates Chris, he hasn’t strayed far from comedy. He did some comedy movies like Scary Movie 5 (2013) and Bridesmaids (2011). But he might’ve outdone his Julius character with his time on the comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013) as dedicated family man and protective sergeant Terry Jeffords.

In 2024 he also proved that the world created by Chris Rock was never far from his heart or mind. He reprised his role as Julius in the animated series Everybody Still Hates Chris (2024). Even better, his on-screen TV wife in the original series, Tichina Arnold, returned to play Rochelle again.

Just because Crews stuck with comedy since the end of Everybody Hates Chris doesn’t mean that’s the only thing that has happened with him since the show ended. Crews has become a staple of The Expendables (2010) franchise as Heavy Weapons Specialist Caesar in the first film, The Expendables 2 (2012), and The Expendables 3 (2014). But even then… he’s the comedic relief.

One to Watch: To understand the GIF “It’s enough to make a grown man cry,” viewers should watch Crews in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013) as Earl Devereaux.

Tichina Arnold (Rochelle Rock)

While Julius kept an eye on their finances, Tichina Arnold’s Rochelle grounded the entire family on Everybody Hates Chris. There’s also the fact that somehow Arnold managed to put the fear of God into Chris, but anyone watching can relate because our moms also gave us that look when we were acting up.

Since the show ended, Arnold has continued to do comedies. She starred alongside Fran Descher in Happily Divorced (2011). And then she did a sports dramedy in Survivor’s Remorse (2014). But she didn’t hit it big again until she played matriarch Tina in CBS’s The Neighborhood (2018). And while you can see sparks of Rochelle in Tina, they were very different characters with Tina being a bit warmer.

Like Terry Crews, Arnold also returned to the world of Everybody Hates Chris in Everybody Still Hates Chris. And for fans of the original show, it felt like coming home to her animated version of Rochelle.

One to Watch: If you’re in the mood for a Christmas movie no matter the time of the year, Arnold has a couple under her belt including So Fly Christmas (2023).

Imani Hakim (Tonya Rock)

If Chris was the lead of Everybody Hates Chris, then his little sister Tonya was the foil. She was mischievous and vindictive, but you couldn’t deny that she was probably the smartest member of the family.

Since the show ended, Hakim has dabbled in a couple movies like the horror thriller A Southern Haunting (2024), where she played the lead Lula, and the TV movie The Gabby Douglas Movie (2014), where she played the titular character. What might surprise viewers is that Hakim also starred in Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens (2016) as Gabrielle.

But the only other TV show that Hakim has really hit it off with is the Apple TV series Mythic Quest (2020). She played Dana, a game tester and then developer. And even though this character was a little more reluctant than Tonya, she was charismatic and adapted well.

One to Watch: More love needs to be shown to Pokémon Concierge (2023), where Hakim voices Alisa.

Tequan Richmond (Drew Rock)

The insecurity that Chris felt in Everybody Hates Chris was made all the worse by Tequan Richmond’s character Drew. He was Chris’ talented and charismatic younger brother. But unlike Tonya, he didn’t hold ill-will towards Chris.

So what happened to Richmond after the show ended? He jumped around a little and did guest star spots in shows like Private Practice (2007), Mr. Box Office (2012), and Weeds (2005). And he starred in the Hulu comedy series All Night. But it’s not comedy that defined his years after Everybody Hates Chris—it’s the soaps.

In 2012, he joined the iconic soap General Hospital (1963) as T.J. Ashford. He took over the role from Krys Meyer, and played the rebellious and charming character for over 100 episodes. Unfortunately, after being dropped to recurring status, the character was once again recast and Tajh Bellow stepped in to play T.J., leaving Richmond to pursue other work.

One to Watch: Just like Tichina Arnold, Richmond is also in a Christmas movie, Brewsters’s Millions: Christmas.

Vincent Martella (Greg Wuliger)

Vincent Martella played Greg Wuliger, Chris’ only friend who goes to school with him. And he matched Chris’ nerdy personality while also being way more optimistic and anxious at the same time.

After the show ended, Martella did try out some live-action roles. He played Patrick in a handful of episodes in The Walking Dead—the season before Tyler James Williams would join. And he played a love-sick ghost in the dark comedy Clinger (2015).

But everything he’s done after Everybody Hates Chris pales in comparison to his true legacy as the voice of Phineas in Phineas and Ferb (2007). He’s voiced the character for almost 20 years and across multiple movies and video games. And there are more episodes and an untitled movie to come.

One to Watch: Martella actually joined the cast of Everybody Still Hates Chris. But he voiced a different character, Rick D.

Chris is a teenager growing up as the eldest of three children in Brooklyn, New York during the early 1980s. Uprooted to a new neighborhood and bused to a predominantly white middle school two-hours away by his strict, hard-working parents, Chris struggles to find his place while keeping his siblings in line at home and surmounting the challenges of junior high.
