Before 'The Gentlemen' Season 2, Netflix Already Confirmed Its (Possibly Royal) Future

We live in an era where people typically tune in to a new show with their hearts in their throats, anxious about a possible cancellation as opposed to fully confident about a renewal. The Gentlemen (2024), a series by Guy Ritchie and based on his movie of the same name, The Gentlemen (2020), was luckily renewed after its first season. While the second took a bit longer than normal to return, it's now right around the corner, ready to release on September 3rd.

But ahead of its Season 2 release, Netflix has already renewed The Gentleman for a third season, which is ultimately surprising from the streamer. This could hopefully mean that we'll get the release of its third season sooner than we got the second, but it might also be answering the question about rumored royalty in a potentially guest-starring role. 

Is There A Cliffhanger In 'The Gentlemen' Season 2?

The truth of the matter is, we don't even have to watch The Gentlemen Season 2 at this point to be certain of the fact that there will be a cliffhanger, and it'll likely be even bigger than what we got in Season 1. A large part of the sophomore season's trailer teases a more prominent arc for all characters involved, and they were already playing with fire during its debut. In addition, with Netflix's Tudum, showrunner and director Guy Ritchie noted, "The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded, and the consequences carry weight. A third season felt inevitable, and I'm looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further."

Theo James' Eddie is ready not only to legalize marijuana, but also to come out on top, whether that'll come at the expense of his partnership with Kaya Scodelario's Susie Glass and her father, and the trailer essentially promises a bloodbath. Alliances will be tested, trust will undoubtedly be broken, and no matter what happens, the show is undoubtedly about to get even more intense in its second season, so it's a good thing to have the early renewal. 

The Rumors About Meghan Markle's Casting, Explained

Emphasis on the word rumors because that's clearly all they've ever been. While there have been numerous reports hinting that the former Suits (2011) star and current Duchess of Sussex is ready to make her way back to acting, it's hard to imagine The Gentlemen being the show where she makes her long-awaited return.

While executives are using cryptic language to talk about these rumors, the answer is obvious. According to Deadline, while speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Netflix's Manda Levin replied with "all bets are off" when asked whether Markle will appear in The Gentlemen's third season. Some people might still be hopeful for an appearance because rumors typically come from somewhere; it'd be more believable if the series were critically acclaimed or a little less dark. Significantly less dark, if we're being honest.

This isn't to say that it isn't excellent or that Markle can't play with darker material. Still, everything about The Gentlemen feels like the polar opposite of what can be a compelling return to acting after years of being away.
