'The Batman II' Is "A Radical Change" Says Robert Pattinson - Here's What He Might Mean [EXCLUSIVE]
The Batman (2022) was a transformative film for the Caped Crusader, as it finally showed a version of the character we had rarely seen on the big screen. Relatively new to the vigilante life, the film focused on the detective side of his persona and gave us an incredible mystery that set up the world of Gotham City.
Now, with The Batman Part II (2028) on the way, we have even more questions and rumors about what Matt Reeves could be setting up for the highly anticipated sequel. But a recent interview with Robert Pattinson at JustWatch also gives us an idea of what to expect.
Robert Pattinson Confirms a "Radical Change" for 'The Batman Part II'

Robert Pattinson's press run for his upcoming film Primetime (2026), which explores Chris Hansen's iconic To Catch a Predator (2004-2007) series, also had the actor talking about what to expect from The Batman Part II. According to the actor: "…Even when I watch playbacks of some scenes, it looks different from the first one. It's just amazing, a really radical change." He's speaking in regard to how the film is already trying to reinvent itself and how what he's seen already feels so different.
Pattinson also spoke on the wild ambitions of the sequel film and how wild it is that Warner Bros. is so behind what Reeves is bringing to the table. However, he also added that Reeves is the only one who could make it happen and concluded his interview by stating that "The audience will be thrilled." Considering Pattinson has been on a generational run in his acting career these past few years, these words are enough to get any fan of the actor or character excited for the future.
Of course, considering the wait and multiple delays that have made up the production of The Batman Part II, audiences already have incredibly high expectations. The idea of taking a skilled cast and crew and trying to explore a new perspective on a reinvention of a character is a massive undertaking. Fans have come up with multiple theories about what the story could be about based on casting announcements and details from the film and The Penguin (2024).
'The Batman Part II's Rumors Fuel the Fires of Many Outlandish Ideas
With major films, rumors are always a given, and ever since a sequel to The Batman was confirmed, this has fueled the fanbase for years. One of the earliest theories was that the iconic Court of Owls would be the major villains. Since they were tied to Gotham's elite and the creation of the city, and this universe is so tied to Gotham's past, it made sense to consider this rumor even though it still hasn't been confirmed or denied.
There was also the confirmation of a snowy setting in the film, which immediately had fans thinking that Mr. Freeze would finally get his second chance on the big screen. Considering his first live-action outing in Batman & Robin (1997) was so panned, fans have wanted to see the character represented correctly for years. But again, with no confirmation, this theory was also left on ice.
Now, with the addition of Sebastian Stan in the movie, people have already fancast him as Harvey Dent, even though this hasn't been officially confirmed either. Considering how grounded this franchise has been, exploring a character like Two-Face would make perfect sense. We've gotten Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, and Joker already, and to have Two-Face feels like another addition to a classic list of rogues this world deserves.
The first film also teased the Elliot family name, which is made famous by the character Hush, who was actually Tommy Elliot, a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne. Family has played a massive role in this universe, and to feature a character like Hush would make for perfect timing. A story of Batman confronting his past before moving forward is a genius move to grow his character, but also one that hasn't been confirmed either. The only thing we can confirm is that the sky is the limit, and neither Reeves nor Pattinson has given us a clue on which theory might make sense.
The Confirmations of 'The Batman Part II' Paint a Vague Picture

Realistically, all we know about The Batman Part II is tied to what we have seen on screen or in comic books. The first film, The Penguin TV show, and the Riddler comic book are the only things that have expanded this world in a way that, unfortunately, still keeps things under wraps. But what we do know for certain is more than enough to get an idea of where this unique franchise is headed.
A recently released teaser video shows very subtle refinements to the Batsuit, such as slightly higher ears on the cowl. There were also set photos and videos that show Batman adopting more of a yellow-tinted belt, which feels more in line with the classic comics and complements his black suit.
This Batman is also on the run from the cops in his Batmobile in a snowy Gotham City. Granted, we have seen Batman running from the cops before, but for all intents and purposes, it seemed he was more on their good side after the last film. This alone could nod to a plot point where something or someone turns the cops against him.
With visual details like that and Sebastian Stan confirmed, it adds more credence to the Harvey Dent theory, as he would have the means, as Two-Face or Dent, to turn the GCPD on Batman and leave him to his own devices to stop the enemy. The Batman Part II has the potential to be the best Batman movie ever made, and that's largely because the movie aims to try something new with this contained universe. If Pattinson approves, then, even with our countless theories, the wait will be well worth it.
