Top 10 Star Wars Characters Who Deserve A Spinoff, According To Fans
Star Wars is one of the most globally recognized movie franchises in the world. It's difficult to believe that it all started with a lonely farm boy who dreamed of a bigger life and ended up saving the galaxy and redeeming his father across three films. But his story wouldn't have been possible without a supporting cast of characters who, according to fans, deserve their own spinoffs.
Although they were never originally meant to carry entire narratives on their own, the lack of individual backstories creates a sort of gap in the continuity that modern audiences aren't used to. These days, people prefer knowing where someone came from, how they met their peers, and what deep-seated trauma or ambition drives them to do the things they do.
Despite the large volume of available content on streaming platforms like Disney+ and new projects that are still in various stages of development, viewers across multiple regions all agree that the following Star Wars characters deserve more screen time. The ranking comes courtesy of a global fan survey.

Star Wars Spin-Offs That Are Just Unnecessary

Yoda taking up the top spot on the list actually makes the most sense. He serves as a Jedi Master on the High Council and trains generations of Jedi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. After Emperor Palpatine turns Anakin Skywalker to the dark side, Yoda goes into exile on Dagobah and eventually trains Luke in the ways of the Force in The Empire Strikes Back (1980).
Even with all that, there are still large gaps in his life that haven't been filled on screen, especially his earlier years and how he became such a central figure in the Jedi hierarchy. While a Yoda spin-off has potential, it also feels unnecessary and risks damaging the allure of the legendary Jedi Master that everyone loves.
R2-D2 is probably the least likely to ever receive a spin-off, even though he appears in almost every major storyline in the franchise. He serves as a utility droid involved in everything from carrying the Death Star plans in A New Hope (1977) to assisting multiple Jedi and Rebel missions across the saga. But that means he's already been everywhere and there's nothing left to tell.
Jar Jar Binks is one of the more awkward entries on the list. He's introduced in The Phantom Menace (1999) as a Gungan outcast who ends up helping the Jedi and later becomes a representative in the Galactic Senate. He had a major role early on and then gradually faded into the background as the prequel trilogy progressed. So, a spin-off doesn't really make sense.
Star Wars Stories That Are Already Complete
Princess Leia Organa is one of the most developed characters in Star Wars. She's introduced as a leader of the Rebel Alliance. Return of the Jedi (1983) also reveals her as Luke's twin sister and the daughter of Darth Vader. She's central to the original trilogy, appears as a baby in the prequel trilogy, and eventually becomes the leader of the Resistance in the sequel trilogy.
A younger version of the character has also been revisited in the 2022 Obi-Wan Kenobi series. So, the likelihood of a full Leia spin-off is relatively low. The same logic applies to Emperor Palpatine since his story is told completely across all three trilogies, from his political ambitions as Chancellor of the Republic to his rise as a Sith Lord and eventual death.
Han Solo, the charismatic smuggler who becomes a key figure in the Rebel Alliance, forming one of the central relationships of the original trilogy, already has a spin-off film (2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story) that explores his early life, including how he acquired the Millennium Falcon. His story also ties in with Chewbacca, who is one of the most consistent presences in the entire franchise.
Chewy is a Wookiee from Kashyyyk, a skilled pilot and mechanic, who becomes Han's closest ally. Since his story has such close links to Han Solo's origin, a spin-off really wouldn't make any sense. Mace Windu plays a major role in the prequel trilogy as a senior member of the Jedi Council and one of its most powerful fighters. But he is eventually killed in Revenge of the Sith (2005).
While a Mace Windu spin-off seems like a cool idea, the character has already been featured in other projects like the 2008 animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie and accompanying series, which gives fans insight into his time as a Jedi Master before his death. And in Tales of the Jedi (2022), we get to see his earlier days as a Jedi during the prequel era.
Star Wars Spin-Offs With Potential
Qui-Gon Jinn is one of the most realistic spin-off candidates on the list because there is still unexplored time in his life before The Phantom Menace, where he discovers a young Anakin. He trains Obi-Wan Kenobi and challenges the more rigid thinking of the Jedi Council. Even after his death, his ideas continue to influence the direction of the story, particularly through Obi-Wan.
Lando Calrissian starts out as the administrator of Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back, initially betraying Han before helping the Rebellion. He later plays a direct role in the destruction of the second Death Star. There's enough unexplored narrative in Lando's story for a spin-off, which is reportedly in development, with Donald Glover, who played Lando in Solo, set to star.
