The ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Trailer Has Everyone Asking 6 Questions
Not to be dramatic, but dropping the Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) trailer at six a.m. on a Wednesday has derailed my entire day. I'm certainly not alone in feeling all the feelings and asking all the questions because it's felt like eons since we last left Peter Parker all alone in a dingy New York apartment at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Of all the Marvel properties that are set to release in the coming years, a lot is riding on Brand New Day for those of us who are Spider-Man fans first and foremost.
The trailer almost feels like a teaser as it only gives us glimpses of what we want to see, posing more questions than the answers we won't get until we actually watch the movie. And Marvel trailers can be both wildly obvious and vague at the same time, so this one's tricky. Here are all the questions people are asking after watching the trailer, and the possible outcomes we might see in the movie.
What Is Happening to Peter Parker?
Peter's body is changing in Brand New Day, and we aren't the only ones concerned with what's happening to him. Tom Holland's character is also asking the big question aloud. In a voiceover that could be from Keith David, someone notes that "Spiders have three life cycles. When between cycles, it can leave the spider vulnerable to threats. [...] And for those spiders who make it through, it amounts to a kind of rebirth."
While we don't have confirmation yet over what's happening, there's a good chance that we might get similar narratives to The Other, a comic chapter where stress-induced changes result in a mutation for our favorite friendly neighborhood web slinger. Loneliness is a deep, cutting ache that can be horrendous to deal with, and in the world of superheroes, no one is more alone than Peter Parker. It wouldn't be remotely shocking if his mental state were having a colossal impact on his physical health, too.
Can We Trust Frank Castle/The Punisher?
Frank Castle is the most complex and well-written anti-hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He's never one thing and keeps us on our toes in the best way, brought to life by effective performances by Jon Bernthal. But Peter Parker is a sweet baby angel, and if Frank harms a single hair on his head, even accidentally, there will be words.
More than anything, it'll be interesting to see where Frank's arc takes him in Daredevil: Born Again (2025) Season 2, and if that's any indication of what his role in Brand New Day will be, and how it'll look. Friend, foe, or none of the above, his ambiguity remains a solid puzzle piece that's exciting to think about.
Does the Key to the City Hint at Another Daredevil Cameo?
Thus far, the Punisher is the only character from the canon Daredevil universe that we know of for certain, but if Peter Parker is being handed the key to the city, then is there a chance we'll see current mayor Fisk or the devil of Hell's Kitchen himself? It's easy to hope because Tom Holland and Charlie Cox acting alongside one another would have glorious results, but we won't have any clear answers until maybe Season 2 is over.
At the end of the day, the key to the city could either be incredibly helpful for Peter or another terrible thing to happen to him, and either of these outcomes is enough to stress die-hard viewers like me out.
Where and Who Is Sadie Sink's Character?
We know that Stranger Things' (2016) Sadie Sink will play a major role in Brand New Day, but confirmation of who she'll play is still under lock and key. The longtime speculation since her casting was that she'd be Jean Grey, and brief, blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments in the trailer hint that this could maybe be true.
While we don't see her physical form per se, there's a brief shot of someone in all black from the back. We also get glimpses of hands at one moment and a shot of a body hidden inside some sort of machinery. We may all be fishing with these moments, but the fact that Marvel is keeping her character's identity hidden tells us that it's a bigger deal than we imagine. With the idea of Peter's body changing, it leaves plenty of room to involve the mutants and The X-Men, so these theories aren't too far off.
Who Are All the Villains?
Villains also aren't confirmed for Brand New Day, but glimpses reveal Michael Mando will reprise his role as Mac Gargan from Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), and if his tail is any indication, he'll be suiting up as The Scorpion this time. We also see brief snippets of who can also be Anton Miguel Rodriguez's Tarantula and Frederick Myers' Boomerang.
There's also a very brief shot of The Hand, a centuries old Ninja organization. Sink's character could also be a villain for all we know, and the same with the mystery man beside Zendaya's MJ.
Who Is MJ's New Boyfriend?
A very important question I'm personally asking is, is MJ's hair red? But other than that, surely we're all thinking of her new beau, played by Eman Esfandi. Harry Osborn isn't in this canon universe yet, and he may never be, but could Esfandi's mysterious character be the son of Norman Osborn?
It'd be great to explore this narrative for the sake of the canon, but it's also worth noting that MJ is still wearing the black Dahlia necklace that Peter gave to her. There seems to be a bit of recognition between the old love birds when they briefly see each other again in the trailer, so could she recognize him before anyone else does? And how will this look for her new boo? Regardless, this arc is one of the more exciting portions for me, personally, as these two are the Marvel relationship after my own heart.
