4 Ways Past Spider-Man Movies Inspired Tom Holland's 'Brand New Day' Suit
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) is coming soon and is bringing Peter Parker back to basics after his time with the Avengers. Now, after meeting his movie counterparts in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), he’s wearing a more traditional suit that has next to no tech in it.
In a recent YouTube video, Tom Holland explained the importance of his new suit being inspired by what he saw in Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions. But the ways this is showcased are so subtle that only true fans would catch them. Thankfully, here is a list that breaks down the most important similarities between the Spidey suits.
Peter Parker’s Web-Shooters Are Smaller And On The Outside Of His Suit
The MCU’s Spider-Man originally had his web-shooters on the outside, but his upgraded suit from Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) made them smaller and placed them under his suit. Meanwhile, Andrew Garfield’s web-shooters were more compact and on the outside. This later look seems to heavily inspire Holland’s latest suit design.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has Peter’s web-shooters still on the larger side but magnetized to the outside of his outfit just like Garfield’s. While this won’t last long as he will get organic webbing, it’s a fun nod to the past and perceptive since Peter didn’t have a lot of time to compare notes on each other’s tech.
Tom Holland’s Spider Symbol Is Similar To Tobey Maguire’s Suit
Andrew Garfield’s spider symbols on his suit were always very large with a special focus on longer legs, while Tom Holland’s were always incredibly small, homaging Steve Ditko’s early designs. In contrast, Tobey Maguire had a perfect mix with the back symbol being larger, but the front being more medium-sized.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s suit adopts a front spider symbol more like Maguire’s by making it medium-sized. It balances perfectly, and even the back symbol is similar, finally giving the MCU version of the character an easily identifiable symbol that’s perfectly his own.
A Deeper Shade Of Blue Homages Andrew Garfield’s Suit
Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man suit was famous for having darker colors, especially the blue. It wasn’t until Spider-Man 3 (2007) that we saw his palette get a bit lighter. But with Andrew Garfield’s suits, the blues were richer without getting too bright, especially in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Peter marries the colors of his older suits with Andrew’s to give us a less shiny version of what we saw at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home. As a result, this suit has the best shade of blue we’ve seen in a Spider-Man movie that leans heavily into Garfield’s look, as well as the classic suit from the ’70s and ’80s.
