Spider-Man’s New Powers In Brand New Day, Explained
Peter Parker’s powers are in overdrive in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026). It leads him to waking up in strange places, being overwhelmed by his senses, and a tiny bit of an anger problem. That last one was super temporary because this is our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man after all. But things are changing for Spider-Man in ways that he can’t understand.
To help you better understand Peter’s new powers after watching Brand New Day, or if you just like spoilers, I’m going to break down how Spider-Man’s body changed in this movie, but also the powers/abilities that developed. Also, there’s no denying it: Peter’s mental health was a huge part of the story when it came to Tom Holland’s version of Spider-Man. And I need to talk about it.
Just for fun I’m also going to look at some of the other crazy powers that Spider-Man has had. Because there’s so much more he can do besides having increased strength, his Spidey-sense, or the ability to climb walls like it’s nothing.
What New Powers Did Spider-Man Get in ‘Brand New Day’?

Spider-Man’s powers are tied to the spider that bit him and the mutated biology that resulted because of that. And when we first meet this hero in Captain America: Civil War (2016), he’s already got the strength, power, and abilities tied to Spider-Man. But it’s not until Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) that Peter confirms that he was bitten by a spider and that’s where his powers come from.
The reason I bring up Peter’s past is because this is the first time as an audience that we’re seeing him deal with his body mutating, thanks to that initial bite. He wasn’t like Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man where we got to see the moment they got bit. So it feels terrifying to see Holland’s version go through a secondary mutation that sees his arachnid DNA almost take over his human DNA.
At the end of the day, what’s happening in Brand New Day isn’t Peter necessarily getting new powers. It’s something biological that is happening to his body. And that maturing (combined with mental health problems) led to increased strength, heightened senses, and the blackening of his eyes. But it also led to sacks forming in his arms that allow him to shoot out his own organic webs.
In a way, now this version of Spider-Man is closer to Maguire’s. And it makes me wonder if Garfield’s version could one day also go through a secondary mutation that leads to new powers or enhanced abilities.
What Did Peter’s Mental Health Have to Do With His New Powers?

Peter’s mental health was intricately tied with his new powers/abilities because your mental health can have significant effects on the body's ability to function normally.
The Peter that we’re presented with in Brand New Day is alone, no one remembers him, and he watches his best friend and girlfriend through a screen to feel connected with them. He does this for four years and some change without making any new connections except Detective Jean DeWolff. And though he tries to act like he’s ok, DeWolff is the one to point out that he needs to take a break.
Our neighborhood Spider-Man is literally running himself to the ground because he doesn’t want to think about the massive losses he’s experienced or the fact that he’s alone. Combine that with the actual saving of lives and Peter is stressed. According to the Mayo Clinic, stress can cause fatigue, headaches, sleep problems, angry outbursts, and a weaker immune system.
Now if stress can cause all these harmful side-effects to a regular human being, it makes sense that things would be 10 times worse for someone with mutated DNA. In fact, the movie makes it clear that his loss of control is tied to a loss of self. And you see that loss and stress manifest in the headaches, the overstimulation of the senses, the outbursts, and even the loss of time that led him to wake up in a complex web multiple stories up.
The moment that he accepts both sides of himself, stops running from his pain, and leans on his friends, you could see the weight come right off his shoulders. That’s what allowed him to focus, fight, and save the day. However, it’s not perfect. He still has a lot of things to figure out. But when it comes to his mental health and the connection to his new powers, things got better for Spider-Man when he finally worked on himself.
What Other Powers Has Spider-Man Had?

In comparison to some of the other powers that Spider-Man has had, Holland’s run as this hero seems pretty tame.
The wildest one for me is the fact that at one point Spider-Man had a stinger. They first appeared in the 2025 crossover “The Other: Evolve or Die.” In it, he died, was reborn, and had stingers with actual venom like a spider.
In the 2001 Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 2 #30, Spider-Man got himself some killer night vision. He could see in near-total darkness. And his abilities were compared to Daredevil’s abilities. This is the one power that I wonder if we’ve now got thanks to those black eyes we saw Peter sporting in Brand New Day. Just like a spider.
Other powers Spider-Man has had include actual fangs, hibernation healing, and resistance when it comes to radiation. As if that wasn’t enough, at one point there was a clone of Peter called Kaine Parker that could control spiders. But he also had this special move called the Mark of Kaine where he can use his hand to burn you or rip your skin off.
