Thirteen years! That's how long it's been since the last installment of the Cornetto trilogy was released. Consisting of Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007), and The World's End (2013), the series is the brainchild of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg, with Nick Frost and Pegg lending their charisma to the screen as well. Each film has hordes of fans, who have desperately been awaiting more movies in this universe of standalone movies, and recent Instagram posts from Wright and Pegg suggest that might finally be the case.
Just one day apart, Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg shared the same picture on their respective Instagrams. The image in question shows Wright and Pegg, cheek to cheek in a sideways embrace. While the two are longtime friends frequently photographed together, it's the individual details that have fans excitedly questioning if this is a bigger tease for a new project, specifically in the Cornetto series.
Edgar Wright & Simon Pegg Leave Sneaky Clues In Their Instagram Posts
Simon Pegg's post went up first. It's captioned with "Idea…" and accompanied by Marc DeMarco's "Cooking Up Something Good." Together, it seems to suggest this is more than just a photo of two friends, but rather a tease of a new project cooked up by Wright and Pegg. However, it's Wright's post, which went up a day later, that seems to point to the Cornetto trilogy, with this image captioned with a heart and set to Queen's "You're My Best Friend." As fans of Shaun of the Dead know, "You're My Best Friend" played at the end of the movie, even if Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" frequently gets more remembered.
Just look at the comments beneath each post, and you'll see no shortage of speculation and excitement. "Are we finally getting from dusk til shaun?" "Please please please." “Cornetto Quartetto.”
Is it possible that Wright and Pegg finally plan to deliver on the frequently demanded Shaun of the Dead sequel? Perhaps. However, a separate Cornetto movie feels more likely. And then, of course, there is the even rarer chance that Spaced (1999) could make a comeback, whether in the form of a revival season or movie.
Wright & Pegg Previously Swore Off A 'Shaun Of The Dead' Sequel
It's not often that lightning strikes twice, and sometimes, the wisest creatives are the ones who realize that. Shaun of the Dead might be one of the most beloved zombie movies out there (I know it's easily one of my favorites), so it's always risky to mess with that type of legacy—and both Wright and Pegg seem to agree.
Wright has frequently expressed his disinterest in a sequel, telling The Hollywood Reporter in 2021 that he finds it "difficult to cover the same territory again" and would rather "challenge [himself] with a different subject matter or something [he hasn't] done before." Likewise, Pegg, in a 2025 Reddit AMA, said, "I think it's best left alone. I don't think there's any point in rebooting it. Some stories just have a beginning, middle and end. And the trouble with sequels sometimes, is that you have to undo the resolution of the original film in order to start another story."
Around that same time in 2025, Pegg told Variety that he and Wright are "trying to settle on a basic premise for something," but that its separation from Shaun of the Dead (and seemingly the larger Cornetto trilogy) would "disappoint everybody." With that in mind, these Instagram posts may be indicative of Pegg and Wright's new comedy project, not another Cornetto trilogy per se.
Still, all hope isn't entirely lost. Without official confirmation from Pegg or Wright yet, there's always a chance fans get the Shaun of the Dead sequel of their dreams, and I highly recommend using the title "From Dusk Til Shaun" if that happens. (Please, Edgar Wright! Please!) Even another standalone Cornetto movie would suffice. Neither Wright nor Pegg seems overly interested in pursuing that based on past interviews. However, sometimes, time changes things. So, we will keep our fingers crossed as we await further information regarding Pegg and Wright's seemingly teased new project.
