Where You've Seen The Cast Of Netflix's Live-Action 'Gundam' Before
The beloved Japanese sci-fi franchise Gundam is getting a live-action Netflix adaptation. With the actors announced, many are wondering where they’ve seen the cast before. But before we dive in, it’s important to know what Netflix’s adaptation is all about. At its core, we’re getting a lot of the same franchise staples: mobile suits, space colonies fighting for independence, and a war in space.
According to Netflix, this Gundam movie will be an original story that follows rival mech pilots fighting on opposite sides of a decades-long war between Earth and its former space colonies. Everything changes for these unknown characters when they’re pulled into a high-stakes race across the stars.
Released by Netflix but produced by Legendary Pictures in partnership with Bandai Namco Filmworks, here’s where you’ve seen the cast of Gundam, as well as where to watch their best/most recognizable roles on platforms like Prime Video, Netflix, and more, before the movie comes out.
Sydney Sweeney
When it comes to Sydney Sweeney, her most recognizable role comes in the form of Euphoria (2019). Across three seasons, she played the controversial, messy, and emotional Cassie Howard, alongside Hollywood A-listers Zendaya and Jacob Elordi.
Outside of Euphoria, Sweeney has tried her hand at becoming a Hollywood It-girl with varying amounts of success. Her rom-com Anyone But You (2023) was overshadowed by rumors of a real-life romantic entanglement with co-star Glen Powell, and her role as Julia Cornwall in Sony’s Madame Web (2024) bombed at the box office.
Nevertheless, Sweeney has continued to persevere. Her 2025 film The Housemaid, where she played Millie Calloway, was a success, leading to a sequel titled The Housemaid’s Secret. Before that, she took on the role of iconic boxer Christy Martin in the biopic Christy (2025).
Noah Centineo
You can’t talk about Netflix darlings without mentioning Noah Centineo. He blew up in popularity thanks to the adaptations of Jenny Han’s books To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018), To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You (2020), and To All the Boys: Always and Forever (2021), where he played the love interest, Peter Kavinsky. His character even made an appearance in the spin-off series XO, Kitty (2023).
Centineo also starred in the Netflix movies Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (2018) and The Perfect Date (2019). He also fashioned himself into an action star in the Netflix spy drama The Recruit (2022), where he played Owen Hendricks.
Outside of Netflix, he’s tried his hand at some movies like Black Adam (2022) and Warfare (2025), but he’ll always be Peter Kavinsky to me.
Jason Isaacs
For millennials, Jason Isaacs is instantly recognizable. He played the villainous Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies, which include: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011).
Outside of his time as Lucius, he’s gained a whole new slew of fans thanks to his memorable role as Timothy Ratliff in HBO’s The White Lotus (2021). Before all of that, he’s recognized by movie fans for his role as Col. William Tavington in The Patriot (2000) alongside Mel Gibson.
Jackson White
When it comes to Jackson White, he’s done more TV than anything. His most recognizable work is also his most recent: Tell Me Lies (2022). He plays the charismatic but manipulative main love interest of Lucy Albright, aka Stephen DeMarco.
Viewers also might recognize White from his time on the mini-series Mrs. Fletcher (2019), where he played Brendan Fletcher. If not from that, viewers might recognize him from his time on SEAL Team (2017) or The Middle (2009).
When it comes to his movie work, his most recent and recognizable role comes as Justin in Swiped (2025) alongside the talented Lily James.
Javon Walton
Javon Walton has a surprising connection with Sydney Sweeney. They were both on Euphoria, even if they ran in different circles. Walton played Ashtray, a young drug dealer who lived with Angus Cloud’s character Fez. Picture him with a buzzed haircut, a line on the side of his hair, and a slit in his eyebrow.
Even though Walton doesn’t have a long filmography, fans of the Netflix show The Umbrella Academy (2009) might also recognize him for playing Stan in Season 3. He was the supposed son of Lila Pitts and Diego Hargreeves.
Still don’t know where you’ve seen Walton before? Most recently, he starred in Hulu’s true crime thriller Under the Bridge (2024) as Warren Glowatski.
Michael Mando
If there’s anyone on this list that would get you headscratching because you could’ve sworn you’ve seen this guy before, it’d be Michael Mando. Firstly, he’s been in tons of procedurals. His first one was the Canadian cop drama Flashpoint (2008). From there, he went on to do everything from Psych (2006) to The Killing (2011), Rookie Blue (2010), and Covert Affairs (2010).
But when it comes to Mando, there are two roles that most people know him for. Firstly, Mando played Vic in Orphan Black (2013) alongside the talented Tatiana Maslany. He was the volatile ex-boyfriend of the lead character, Sarah Manning. Then, there’s Better Call Saul (2015). Personally, this feels like his most recognizable role because it’s a spin-off of the acclaimed series Breaking Bad (2008). In the spin-off, he plays Nacho Varga, a pivotal character within the Salamanca cartel organization in the show.
Gemma Chua-Tran
While Gemma Chua-Tran might not be a familiar name in Hollywood, she’s known in the Australian film and TV space. Her most notable role to date is her time spent on the series Mustangs FC (2017). She played Anusha, a dedicated center-back for the football club at the center of the series.
Joining the cast of Gundam isn’t the first time that they’ve worked with Netflix either. They played Sasha So in the 2022 teen drama Heartbreak High. That character was memorable because of how outspoken they were and their relationship with Chloé Hayden’s Quinni. Also, there is the stunning pink hair to take into consideration.
Shioli Kutsuna
If there’s any actor on this list who should be leading Netflix’s Gundam adaptation, it should be Japanese actress Shioli Kutsuna. Gundam is a Japanese sci-fi franchise, and not only is Kutsuna Japanese, but she has also starred in dozens of Japanese shows and movies.
Her first Japanese show came in the form of playing Fujisawa Risa in Homeroom on the Beachside (2008). From then on, it quickly spiraled into roles in Mei’s Butler (2009), Majo saiban (2009), A Little Princess (2009), and I’m Mita, Your Housekeeper (2011). She gained acclaim in leading roles in Kamogawa shokudô (2016), 7 Mannin Tantei Nitobe (2009), and 125 Years Memory (2015).
But if you don’t watch any Japanese shows or movies, you’ll still recognize Kutsuna. She played the breath of fresh air that was Yukio in Deadpool 2 (2018) and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). She also played Mitsuki Yamato, the highly intelligent engineer and love of Hinata, in the Apple TV sci-fi series Invasion (2021).
Nonso Anozie
Nonso Anozie is the kind of actor that draws the eye when you see him on screen, and it’s not because of his height. It’s because his most memorable roles are a contradiction to what the media landscape would typecast him as.
For those who watch Netflix often, you might’ve seen Anozie in the dystopian sci-fi series Sweet Tooth (2021). He played the gruff yet fiercely protective Tommy Jepperd, and he was commonly referred to as “Big Man” by series lead Gus, whom he encounters in the post-pandemic world and becomes fond of.
Anozie continued to play characters you can’t help but fall in love with in the TV series Ted Lasso (2020). He played Sam’s dad, aka Ola Obisanya. But if you still don’t recognize Anonzie, you might if you watched the cheesy sci-fi gem Zoo (2015), where he played Abraham Kenyatta, a guide and best friend to the series lead Jackson.
Ida Brooke
Out of everyone in this Gundam cast list, Ida Brooke might have the smallest filmography. So viewers shouldn’t feel bad if they don’t recognize her when the Netflix film comes out.
Brooke has only had two small roles so far, one as young Shirley in Apple TV’s Silo (2023) and the other as Becks in The Primrose Railway Children (2024). But keep an eye out for Brooke as she plays Ghanima in Dune: Part Three (2026). And who is Ghanima? She’s Paul Atreides and Chani’s daughter in the Frank Herbert novel Children of Dune.
Oleksandr Rudynskyi
We round off this cast list for Gundam with Ukrainian actor Oleksandr Rudynskyi. If you love theatre, you might recognize him for playing the leads in stage plays like Caligula and Macbeth. If not, viewers might’ve seen him in Ukrainian comedy series like Khovaiuchy kolyshniu (2025) or Golova (2023).
If those roles don’t ring a bell for Rudynskyi, viewers might’ve seen him in the 2023 Western series Django. He played Spencer Forrest. He also appeared in the Michael Fassbender spy drama The Agency (2024) as Boutenko, an undercover Ukrainian Special Forces (SOF) operative.
