8 Must-Watch Movies Coming Out In September 2026
We don't have a huge blockbuster to look forward to in September, but there's a lot to be excited about for some of us regardless. It's going to be a quieter month in terms of the kind of features we'll be getting, yet at the same time, I have a good feeling about it as we head toward a spooky season.
From the long-awaited Practical Magic 2 (2026) to a new Resident Evil (2026), there's a lot of action and high-stakes films to look forward to. At the same time, we're also getting a widely anticipated romance in The Love Hypothesis (2026), and Robert Pattinson is about to deliver another compelling performance, without a doubt. Here are the must-watch movies of September 2026, as well as where you can catch them, in theaters or via streaming on Prime Video.
September 2
If you don't have a bunch of anxiety and are a thrill-seeking adrenaline junkie, you probably loved Fall (2022). Now, there's a sequel with Fall 2: Deadpoint, and the trailers look even more terrifying than the first. As Jax Hunter (Harriet Slater) is grieving her sister Shiloh's (Virginia Gardner) death, she and her sister's friend Luce (Arsema Thomas) bond while climbing Mount Kwan's plank wall in Thailand.
The quest for survival naturally begins here, and it's sure to provide one jump scare after another with drops, dips, and every creaking sound or rock slide. The first movie was pretty well received by both viewers and critics, so it'll be interesting to see how Fall 2: Deadpoint does. A sequel can either be exceptional or unnecessary, but in this case, here's to hoping it's the former.
September 9
From director Na Hong-jin comes the next sci-fi thriller, Hope. If you love high-octane, terrifying alien movies, then look no further. Judging by the trailer alone, it's about to be the kind of wild ride that could also be another big surprise in theaters this year. Underrated horrors are dominating right now with movies like Obsession (2026) and Backrooms (2026) still on everyone's mind, so I have a good feeling about Hope.
The movie will star Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Hoyeon, Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Taylor Russell, and more. Director Na Hong-jin is known for Korea's The Wailing (2016), a chilling horror that's not for the faint of heart, so if there's one thing we can expect from Hope, it's that it'll likely take big risks for a rewarding and thought-provoking story at the helm.
September 11
It's hard to believe that we're actually getting Practical Magic 2 and that it's finally right around the corner. For many of us, the original movie, Practical Magic (1998), is essential for spooky season viewing year-round. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as witches plus midnight margaritas? There's really nothing more that needs to be said. While sequels don't always hold a candle to the original, we can be confident that, if nothing else, Practical Magic 2 will bring us a great deal of cozy warmth.
Seeing the characters reunite years later, where Sally's kids are now older and going through their own thing, is going to provide an interesting perspective while simultaneously giving us something for more than one generation. So much of the excitement for this movie, whether we can help it or not, is because of nostalgia and indescribable comfort, and that detail alone is what makes it a must-watch. The fact that it's a theatrical release makes it even more exciting.
September 11
The question on everyone's mind right now is likely some variation of "What do you mean The Uprising is a Robin Hood origin movie?" Focus Features confirmed the reveal earlier last week, noting that Andrew Garfield's next film is "set against the true events of the Uprising that helped inspire the legend of Robin Hood." Everyone likely assumed that it was set to focus on the 1381 English Revolt against King Richard II, but now that doesn't seem to be the case.
Interestingly, the trailer gives zero indication of Garfield's character but does seem more aligned with the English Revolt than Robin Hood. Regardless, this new bit of information makes the movie sound way more interesting if it'll provide any sort of twist or origin, and could be even better received. Either way, people will certainly be tuning in now to understand further what's happening.
September 18
If you loved Connor Storrie in Heated Rivalry (2026) and couldn't get enough of him, now's your chance to see just how much range the actor is capable of in a futuristic action thriller. Storrie's chops as a performer are already obvious in the trailer alone, and April X looks like it'll be a lot of fun for people who love stories centered around one character doing whatever they need to get back the person they lost.
In Bax's case, that's finding his sister, April (Lilly Krug), when she's been taken. While the movie might not be revolutionary and it was available prior to its theatrical release in the States, it'll surely be an exhilarating time in theaters. If nothing else, I have full confidence in the fact that people will come out of it admiring Storrie and his incredible range even more.
September 18
Starring Austin Abrams, Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and more, 2026's Resident Evil is a new reboot directed by Zach Cregger. Given how brilliant and well-received Weapons (2025) was last year, we can be confident that the known fight for survival through his point of view can be fantastic as well. Reboots can be tricky, but when they have lore as big as a video game franchise, it typically allows for more room to explore different avenues.
Because of this detail, there's a good chance that fans of the originals can separate those versions from this one and take it as it is. Plus, not only is it exciting to see the different approaches directors take, it's riveting to see what actors we're fans of can bring to the story as well.
September 23
If there's one romance that every die-hard reader has been looking forward to most in 2026, it's easily The Love Hypothesis. Adapted from the inimitable Ali Hazelwood's bestselling novel of the same name, the film is an academic-set fake dating story featuring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman as Olive Smith and Adam Carlsen, respectively.
There's so much to appreciate about how the novel incorporates women in STEM, and because it's not something we've seen as much in the rom-com film world, that detail alone has me more thrilled than ever. Simultaneously, the chemistry between Reinhart and Bateman is already so palpable from the teasers and trailers that there's no doubt they'll be bringing the best of Olive and Adam to life. This one's sure to be one of the best rom-coms of the year, so if you love fake dating, plus grumpy/sunshine pairings, buckle up for a hot, swoony, and gorgeously moving time.
September 25
Robert Pattinson is having one of the most glowing periods of his career in 2026, and it's incredible to be continuously reminded of his remarkable range. From The Drama (2026) to The Odyssey (2026) and even Dune 3 (2026) later this year, it's hard to pinpoint which role is best when they're all truly sensational. Next on his list, though, before he's back in the sand, is Primetime, which can very likely be an Oscars contender.
Pattinson will play Chris Hansen, host of To Catch a Predator (2004), and judging by the trailers alone, he's fully deep-diving into the role with everything he's got. A large part of the appeal of watching anything Pattinson does is seeing that he isn't afraid of tackling whatever the role demands. He embodies a character so well that every time we see him perform, it's effortless to forget who he's played before. So if you love crime thrillers, this one's not to be missed. If for no other reason than to see what Pattinson is capable of.
