Any fan of Attack on Titan will immediately recognize that while it’s never been officially talked about, Wayward Pines clearly has taken massive inspiration from the anime. The show’s vibe can be described as Attack on Titan + Twin Peaks + Stranger Things = Wayward Pines.
In 86, two societies use giant robots to wage warfare against each other. One side believes that the robots are all remotely controlled or autonomous…but in reality, the opponents are actually piloting their robots with real people known as 86 – a marginalized minority group that’s been deemed inhuman – using them like kamikaze bombers, knowing they’ll die.
