Zach Cregger's Resident Evil (2026) is bringing a new look to the classic franchise. Set during the events of the Raccoon City outbreak, there are many elements that have changed—from the timeline to the month the outbreak was set in. While this has created frustration among fans, it's not the end of the world.

The story doesn't have to be in the same timeline to be effective, but Resident Evil is still a video game movie that comes with expectations. As a result, there are some things from the games that we need to see to make this universe feel like a true Resident Evil movie.

Tyrants Have to Be Loose in Raccoon City

Mr X in Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis introduced us to a city overrun by zombies but also mutants like the Tyrants. Tyrants were humanoid super soldiers that were hell-bent on accomplishing their mission. While we only see Mr. X and Nemesis in the second and third games, there were many in the city.

Seeing Bryan encounter a Tyrant would be the ultimate way to show how in over his head he is. Unable to really fight one, he'd have to run and hide even more than he likely already will, and as it stalks him, we can feel that same tension in the game on the big screen.

A Licker Transformation Has Never Been on the Big Screen

Licker in Resident Evil 2

Lickers were introduced in Resident Evil 2 as mutated victims of the T-virus who lost the use of their eyes, their skin fell off, they got claws, and had a prehensile tongue that they used to hunt. They're some of the most terrifying creatures in the games, but we've never seen one get made.

There's nothing simple about a Licker or how one could be created, and yet it's a curiosity that still hasn't been explored. Resident Evil could stand out by showing how a zombie painfully transforms into a vicious and fast Licker as its skin comes off, its brain gets exposed, and its teeth get sharp.

The UBCS Could Build the World Without Trying

Carlos in Resident Evil 3

During the outbreak, Umbrella sent out a military team called the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (UBCS) to help innocents and stop bio-weapons. But their other mission was to cover up Umbrella's messes and gather data on the bio-weapons.

Bryan running into or seeing the UBCS in action serves as another subtle reminder of the world this film is set in. Plus, if they throw in characters like Carlos and Nikolai, it would confirm the events of the games are still happening even if Bryan isn't in the area.

Hunters Deserve a Chance to Scare Viewers

A Hunter in Resident Evil 3

Tyrants, zombies, and Lickers are still considered the gold standard of Resident Evil monsters, but Hunters are just as deadly and scary. A mix of reptile DNA and human embryos, meshed together with the T-virus, creates a humanoid reptile monster that's difficult to kill.

The POV shots that tease the Hunters would be a great way to tip off fans without spoiling the surprise for the average audience. Considering how dangerous and twisted Hunters are, having them challenge Bryan's survival would feel like yet another obstacle we'd be unsure he'd survive.

The Sewer Monsters Are Just as Scary as Zombies

Clair fighting G-Adult in Resident Evil 2

One of the scariest segments of Resident Evil 2, especially in the remake, was the sewers. From Leon running from a mutant alligator to the G-Adults, there's so much hidden just under the surface. For G-Adults in particular, seeing these creatures constantly mutate into deformed monsters that spit poison and have a big eye would make even the toughest person scream.

Tyrants are scary on their own, but if Bryan faced a G-Adult as his "final boss," it would make the most sense. These beings are designed to be unstoppable, and if a rookie cop struggled against them, seeing Bryan face one would really be a David and Goliath tale.

Described as a revamp that will return to the franchise's horror roots and be more faithful to the initial games.
