Spider-Man Fans Want A Surprising Marvel Team-Up After ‘Brand New Day’
With Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) making waves worldwide, some fans are already looking ahead to Spider-Man’s (Tom Holland) potential Marvel Cinematic Universe future. With each passing film, the MCU has grown more ambitious regarding Peter Parker/Spider-Man’s connections. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) introduced him to the multiverse, including Sony’s iterations of Spider-Man, while also dropping a Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) cameo.
Now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is pairing the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man with the brutal vigilante Punisher (Jon Bernthal). It’s also keeping the Daredevil crossover trend going with an appearance from The Hand. These Spider-Man team-ups are exciting, considering there was once a time when fans doubted whether the gritty anti-heroes in Daredevil (2015) and The Punisher (2017) could mesh with the more family-friendly MCU Spider-Man. After Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though, fans are vying for an even bolder and more unexpected Spider-Man team-up.
The Marvel Team-up Spider-Man Fans Want To See Next
JustWatch hosted a worldwide survey to determine which superhero team-up MCU fans want to see next for Spider-Man. The survey gave participants six choices for Spider-Man’s potential new partner: Daredevil, Deadpool, The Fantastic Four, Venom, Wolverine, or the X-Men. Of all these options, most fans chose Deadpool. Deadpool was the clear winner in four out of six markets participating in the survey: Germany, Italy, the UK, and the US. Germany was the most enthusiastic for Deadpool, with 30% of participants voting for a Spider-Man and Deadpool team-up. Roughly a quarter of participants in Italy, the UK, and the US also voted for Deadpool.
Meanwhile, in Spain, the votes were tied between Deadpool and Venom, with 22% of participants voting for Deadpool and 22% for Venom. The only market Deadpool didn’t win or tie for first in was France, in which a whopping 32% voted for Daredevil as opposed to 19% for Deadpool. Still, across the board, enthusiasm was fairly high for Deadpool, while enthusiasm for Wolverine, Fantastic Four, or an X-Men team-up was fairly low. It’s possible that since the Fantastic Four or X-Men and Spider-Man team-ups are already close to the realm of possibility due to Avengers: Doomsday (2026), these options weren’t as exciting to participants.
The popularity of Daredevil and Venom as a potential Spider-Man partner also wasn’t very surprising. After all, these characters are most closely linked to Spider-Man in Marvel Comics. Given the popularity of Sony’s Venom film series and the MCU’s Daredevil: Born Again (2025), fans have long been itching to give Daredevil and Venom a proper MCU Spider-Man crossover. The biggest surprise on the poll was Deadpool winning so easily across so many markets. Aside from Wolverine, Deadpool and Spider-Man are the one team-up the MCU hasn’t teased hardly at all. On top of that, they’re such wildly different characters, it makes us wonder how exactly the two would mesh on-screen.
Deadpool and Spider-Man’s Complicated History
Although Deadpool and Spider-Man have little connection in the MCU, they do share a complicated history in Marvel Comics. The pair have met several times, switching between rivals and unlikely friends. In 2016, Marvel Comics began publishing the Spider-Man/Deadpool comic book series, which explores the action-packed comedic adventures of the mismatched pair. As in previous meetings between the pair, Spider-Man is a reluctant ally to Deadpool, while Deadpool is ecstatic to hang out with Spider-Man.
Still, the pair manage to form a sort of camaraderie, noticing the heroism in each other and the common ground in their circumstances. While there’s definitely a friendship between the two, it’s not an easy one. After all, Deadpool is often secretly trying to kill Spider-Man in comics like Spider-Man/Deadpool and Avenging Spider-Man. In other series, like Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, Spider-Man reluctantly teams up with Deadpool but doesn’t quite trust the Merc with a Mouth.
The pair have fought a handful of times, such as when Deadpool gets a hankering to kill the entire Marvel Universe or his antics get too extreme for Spider-Man. Ultimately, though, it’s a love-hate relationship they share, not unlike Deadpool and Wolverine. They may clash, fight, and exasperate one another, but oddly find they go well together when they have to.
Why an MCU Deadpool and Spider-Man Team-up Makes Sense
Spider-Man and Deadpool are vastly different in the comics, and perhaps even more so in the MCU. The MCU’s Spider-Man is so young, still coming into his heroism, and maintains the utmost moral code, while Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) is vulgar and violent, prone to his own wild, bloody brand of justice. Even so, fans might be on to something by wanting a team-up, as there are noticeable similarities in their hero trajectory.
Both individuals found their unique abilities and heroism thrust upon them. However, neither was immediately accepted into the wider superhero world. They had to become heroes in their own right, building their superhero identity from the ground up. Additionally, each has, in some form, lost the woman they loved most. Lost and often finding themselves outside the glory of the Avengers, perhaps Spider-Man and Deadpool would have more in common than they thought. An MCU movie that follows the tone of Spider-Man/Deadpool could be quite comedic and refreshing, giving the two characters that were dealt a rough hand their own little adventure and opportunity to find friendship.
