'Evil Dead Burn's Forgettable Mid-Credits Scene Is Actually Its Scariest Reveal
Evil Dead Burn (2026) gave us a movie in the franchise that has provided fans with a major lore dump about the rules and machinations of the Necronomicon and the Kandarian Dagger. This also allowed the Deadites to act in ways we've never seen before.
One of the things that Evil Dead Burn has explored is Deadites that are truly cruel and violent, with little to no humor. That said, the only one who got some laughs was the grandma, who, even without her legs, was seen in a mid-credits scene. Although it felt like a throw-away gag, it actually reveals a scary truth about the story.
'Evil Dead Burn's Mid-Credits Scene Proves The Horror Isn't Over
The end of Evil Dead Burn has Alice escape the undead dangers that possessed the Price family, as she kills the charred remains of her husband and finds the Kandarian Dagger. In the mid-credits, however, we see the grandma, who cut off her leg to escape containment, crawling on the road until someone finds her.
After feigning innocence, the grandma drops her facade and seemingly kills the young woman, possibly making her a Deadite, now with legs, and likely continuing her mission to find the dagger. Many people didn't talk about this, but the main reason for that is that the post-credits scene overshadowed the others because it saw Ellie from Evil Dead Rise (2023) return.
But this is now the second time a film has ended with a straggler Deadite. However, that first time, the straggler was actually in the previous film for a large portion. That means not only has the Evil still not been sent back to its world, but this is the longest time it's been out since Ash vs. Evil Dead (2015).
Alice May Not Be Safe After 'Evil Dead Burn'
Alice went through so much in her life, long before the Deadites attacked in Evil Dead Burn. From being a domestic abuse survivor to surviving a family possessed by demonic forces, life hasn't been easy. But for the first time since Ash Williams, her horrors may not be over.
Evil Dead's (2013) post-credits scene in the unrated cut shows Mia being saved by a kind man, and while she's traumatized, we know she's no longer a target. This was a great way to double down on this, even though she successfully pushed back the Evil in the film's climax. In contrast, Evil Dead Burn's mid-credits feels like a dark mirror of that because someone comes to the aid of another, but the kind person is the one in danger.
As for Alice, she still has the Kandarin Dagger, and the only thing she has going for her is that she never read the full incantation from the Necronomicon, nor was she targeted. Therefore, there's a small chance the Evil won't hunt her in the future because she has no connection to it. But considering this is Evil Dead, there's always a chance this is the first of more instances of terror she will have to overcome.
'Evil Dead Wrath' Means We Won't See The Modern Day For A While
Unfortunately, while the mid-credits and even post-credits scenes prove that there's a lot more to see in the present day, Evil Dead Wrath (2028) has other plans. That film will predate The Evil Dead (1981), and beyond that, everything else is a mystery.
But what we can assume is that we will see a much more classic look for the franchise, one that could easily dig more into the Circle of the Wise Men or lore tied to the Book of the Dead. Even still, the entire film also confirms one truth: We won't see anything from the present day for a while.
Because of this, the events of Evil Dead Burn will remain a mystery regarding what's coming in the future for Alice or Deadite Grandma. Considering how exciting this moment was, it's frustrating knowing that we will have to wait much longer to see where the story is headed. But the one thing that we can confirm, and that Evil Dead Wrath can't take away, is that the mid-credits scene proves you can't keep a good Deadite down, and it's terrifying to think that at least one is still roaming the earth.
