The ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Poster Already Spoiled ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’

Avengers: Doomsday (2026) unveiled a brand-new poster with its latest trailer reveal, which shows Doctor Doom looking at a massive image of a world and characters all around it. But the most telling part was a woman and child above the massive world.

For many who know Doom, it's hard to avoid thinking about the character's past and how it could be influencing this film. But more than that, the entire poster may have just given us his main motivation for the events of Avengers: Doomsday and what he plans to do, as well as what a potential Battleworld could look like in Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).

’Avengers: Doomsday’s Poster Could Explain What Motivates Doom

One of the many complaints some fans have had regarding Avengers: Doomsday is related to the character of Doctor Doom. Unlike Thanos, who was teased on and off for years, we know next to nothing about Doctor Doom. But just like how Avengers: Infinity War (2018) was a Thanos film, Avengers: Doomsday will likely be a Doom film.

With that in mind, the film's poster gives us more than enough context on what Doom is up to and creates enough mystery to get people to research the character. At a glance, the one thing that makes sense is Doom's connection to his mother, who died after selling her soul to Mephisto.

A mother and child above a world could be Doom trying to make a world that is in his image, where his ultimate goal is to get back the mother he lost and create a world that can't take her from him because he's God Emperor. With family being such a strong part of his character, it makes the poster carry even more weight.

Another Leak Could Change Who Doom Is as a Character

One of the leaks that came with the film was that the child and mother in the image would instead be Doom's wife and child who died, and he's focused on revenge and getting them back. It works as a motivator but also fundamentally changes what we know about the character and the basis for his motivations.

When Doom is trying to get his mother back, it's because he never had a life with her. Most of his motivations come from a mother he only spent a few short years with and knows that the fate she's endured is worse than anything else. He will perform villainy to be her hero, and the tragedy is it's for someone he will never fully understand.

By making the motivations his family, it changes him and makes him much more sympathetic. While Doom was never absolute evil, he would still do questionable things, and for a family that isn't with him anymore, it's likely that few in the film would sympathize, as they've lost things, too. Also, the idea of taking back lost family isn't unlike the motives of Wanda Maximoff when she became a villain to regain her children.

Family Motivating Doom Is Exactly What He Needs For ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Whether the poster is teasing his current family or a mother lost, family pushing Doom's choices is exactly what he needs to be a strong character. He may be a villain, but he's always had a layered origin, and it makes for a compelling story. To destroy realities in order to make his own for those he lost is exactly something the character would do in the comics as well.

Seeing him standing, angrily, over what was lost and the world he intends to make is exactly what makes Doom such a strong and terrifying foe. His power isn't in his strength or magic, but in his mind and the reasons he does what he does. Family is perhaps the most important thing to a character even as vain as Doctor Doom.

Avengers: Doomsday is sure to be one of the biggest films for the MCU, and it's all going to boil down to Doctor Doom and his reasoning for making a new world that would lead to Avengers: Secret Wars. For it to be tied to a family lost is genius and not only works as a polar opposite to Thanos' motivation, but it defines a character we know so little about.
