'Avengers: Doomsday's Latest Reveal Just Changed 'Fantastic Four's Post-Credits Scene
Avengers: Doomsday (2026) has gotten the superhero fandom talking about the Marvel Cinematic Universe again with excitement and positivity. With the recent San Diego Comic-Con, we also got some new footage for the exciting fifth Avengers film, as well as teases of more characters.
One character is the Latverian Witch, a supposed coven of masked women in different colored robes with little else for us to go on in terms of who they are and why they exist. As she goes to get him something, she feels a strange feeling and goes on the defensive. What we see next is Franklin touching the face of a green-hooded character holding a metal mask.
Without context, it's easy to assume that the face Franklin is touching is that of Victor von Doom. But as Avengers: Doomsday has proven, the masks are totally different. The one in the First Steps mid-credits scene is sleeker and shinier, and now that we've seen the Latverian Witch design, it's more likely he's meeting her instead.
This potential change shows a lot about Doom's hindsight and understanding that he likely wouldn't be welcome at the Baxter Building, considering his history with the Fantastic Four. Sending a Latverian Witch, especially if it's a multiversal version of another character like Wanda Maximoff, would explain the level of maternal comfort Franklin is picking up on. But it could also mean Doom isn't threatening the team by visiting, but sending a message or summoning them.
What Do We Know About The Latverian Witches?
In short, we know next to nothing about the Latverian Witches save for what was shown at San Diego Comic-Con. But between that and the First Steps mid-credits scene, we can understand a decent amount of how they may operate, as well as the comic history of Victor von Doom.
At Comic-Con, there were three witch costumes revealed: a green one, a purple one, and a reddish-orange one. This has led many to speculate that characters like Wanda Maximoff, Clea, and the Ancient One could be under the masks. But the one thing that makes the most sense as of now is that if you want to speak to Doom, you must speak to them first.
In the comics, Doom's mother was a Romani witch who made a deal with Mephisto to protect her people, abusing her power and daming her soul to Hell in the process. Doom, who loved his mother more than anything, became a genius and one of the best magic users ever to save her.
With that in mind, Doom likely treats the Latverian Witches with the utmost respect because they are powerful figures who not only work with him but, with the mask, represent the power his mother had. But that would mean they also trust Doom unconditionally, making them truly threatening entities.
How Do The Latverian Witches Define Doctor Doom With 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' Mid-Credits Scene?
If it's confirmed that the Latverian witch is with Franklin at the end of First Steps, that alone tells us everything we need to know about how Doctor Doom operates as a person. More than that, it also confirms just how vain he is as a ruler and what he truly thinks about the people he once considered friends.
In the comics, Doctor Doom has always been a character who thought he was better than everyone else, and ruling a kingdom didn't help that mindset. If anyone were going to protect him that weren't Doombots, it would be witches dressed in his visage. And if they themselves were immensely powerful, he'd not need to leave his throne, hence why they were sent to the Baxter Building. Doom would never stoop so low as to visit the FF in their lowly skyscraper when he has a castle.
The one thing audiences have to take away from Doctor Doom before Avengers: Doomsday is that he's an incredibly villainous villain whose preparation is so great that his ego feels justified even when it isn't. He has a contingency and plan for everything and will gloat when he's right.
The Latverian Witches are an extension of that because he could only have the best of the best work with him. Therefore, if a witch is meeting Franklin, it shows Doom has something to say, but whatever it is, he knows delivering this news is only sweeter when he sends a messenger to summon his rival to tell him to his face.
