Here's Where You Know The Voice Cast Of 'Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender' From
Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender (2026) is the long-awaited follow-up to Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005), which has gone from a popular Nickelodeon show into a sprawling and expansive fantasy franchise. Set in a world where the four nations of element benders are kept in check by the power of the mystically empowered Avatar, the film revisits Aang and his friends years after they saved the world from the Fire Nation.
Although the pieces are already being put into motion for the world to continue growing into what the audiences have seen in sequels and spin-offs, the film focuses on how Aang contends with the existential crisis brought on by the state of the world, and what he does when he’s given the chance to change it.
None of the original actors return outside of veteran voice actor Dee Bradley Baker, with the more diverse adult voice cast representing a different era for the characters. Alongside some minor cameos from the likes of Ronnie Cheng and Ken Jeong, here are the stars of Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender and where you’ve seen (and heard) them before.
Eric Nam as Aang
Taking over the titular role for the grown version of Aang, Eric Nam exploded in the realm of K-pop and became a megastar musician in South Korea before making the move to North America. Nam has been getting more popular steadily with time, but his exposure in the US expanded with his role in the fourth season of The Traitors (2023), where he proved to be an extremely effective player.
Nam’s version of Aang is a more seasoned take on the original character, whose genuine sense of hope and passion for the world has begun to be tempered by existential exhaustion. The actor is set to continue his work as an actor with the musical K-Pop film K-Pop: The Debut (2027), which seems like an ideal fit for the musician turned actor.
Jessica Matten as Katara
Getting her start as a model, Jessica Matten has become an increasingly consistent star in film and television, including her turn as the adult version of Katara. Taking over the role from Mae Whitman, Matten's version of Katara finds herself working alongside Aang to keep the world safer. While she is deeply in love with Aang, a relationship that leads to an extended family by the time of The Legend of Korra (2012), she is increasingly wary of the path his new mission is leading him down.
After a consistent run on Blackstone (2014), Matten found her breakout in the Jason Momoa-led Frontier (2016). She's currently the star of Dark Winds (2022) and is one of the stars of the (pretty terrific) sports drama Rez Ball (2024).
Román Zaragoza as Sokka
Román Zaragoza takes on the role of Sokka in Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, bringing a perfectly sardonic edge to the character's role in the film. Sokka is Katara's brother, a skilled warrior and crafty inventor who hasn't changed much in the years that have passed since the original show.
After appearing in several short films and television shows in minor roles, Zaragoza was cast as Sasappis in the American version of Ghosts (2021). The snarky Lenape hunter from the 16th century is one of the best parts of this iteration of the show and serves as an ideal showcase for the kind of natural snark that he effectively brings to Sokka. This also isn't his first time working as a voice actor, as he previously appeared in the young audience's show Spirit Rangers (2022) on Netflix.
Dionne Quan as Toph
Toph is one of the most popular characters in the Avatar franchise, a blind master of earthbending with one of the fiercest attitudes in the main cast, an attitude that hasn’t been tempered by age in the slightest. Dionne Quan is a veteran voice actor, using her long-time experience in a lengthy career that stretches back to the 1990s.
Getting her start in Nickelodeon shows like The Wild Thornberrys (1998), Rugrats (1991), and The Fairly OddParents (2001), Quan was a consistent presence in animated shows and films for over a decade. Quan retired from voice acting in 2015 but came back for the video game Epic Seven. She plays Toph in the film, embodying the effortlessly confident blind earthbending/metalbending expert with a lot of fun line reads.
Steven Yeun as Zuko
The anti-villain Zuko is one of the most complex characters in the original Last Airbender animated series, so it's no surprise the film was able to recruit Steven Yeun for the role of his adult self. Finding his big break as the lovable survivor Glenn in The Walking Dead (2010), Yeun has become one of Hollywood's most versatile actors in the last decade.
His dramatic turns in films like Minari (2020) elevated him in the eyes of Hollywood, earning him an Academy Award nomination that he followed up with an Emmy win for Netflix's Beef (2023). Yeun is also just at home in more villainous roles, as seen in his deceptively complex performances in Nope (2022), Mickey 17 (2025), and The Rip (2026). In that time, Yeun has also become a prolific voice actor, with starring roles in Voltron: Legendary Defender (2016), Tuca & Bertie (2019), and Invincible (2021).
Dave Bautista as Tagah
At the heart of Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender is Tagah, a mysterious Air Nomad whom Aang discovers frozen away for untold centuries. Tagah offers another perspective on the legacy of the Air Nomads and proves to be Aang's mirror reflection in many key ways. Dave Bautista plays Tagah with a mix of blunt tough guy confidence and a soulful regret over the state of the world.
Getting his start in wrestling, Bautista broke out after his hilarious turn as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). Gradually morphing into that trilogy's beating heart, Bautista showcased a versatility that has since been realized in plenty of action films like Army of the Dead (2021), tense dramas like Knock at the Cabin (2023), and crime thrillers like Trap House (2025).
Geraldine Viswanathan as Kallak
Typically known for her comedic performances, Geraldine Viswanathan has a much more dramatic turn in Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender as Kallik. Viswanathan found her big break in Blockers (2018), where she appeared as Kayla Mannes and got to bounce off a fully unleashed John Cena. She was the star of all four seasons of Miracle Workers (2019) opposite Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi, an anthology comedy that shifted style and setting with each episode.
Avatar isn't her first time in openly geeky material, though, as she also appears as Val's conflicted assistant Mel in the MCUn film Thunderbolts* (2025). As one of the Denied, Kallik provides an outside perspective on the Avatar and the Air Nomads that plays a key part in the plot of the film.
Freida Pinto as Sonam
There are two additional Avatar spirits in Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, one of which is Freida Pinto's Sonam. Born and raised in Mumbai, Pinto's breakout performance in Slumdog Millionaire (2008) shot her into the spotlight. Since then, she's balanced big blockbuster epics like Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and Immortals (2011) with dramatic turns in shows like Guerrilla (2017) and Surface (2025).
Similar to her co-star Román Zaragoza, her turn as the ancient Avatar Sonam is her second prominent voice-over role after a stint in the Disney Channel series Mira, Royal Detective (2020).
Ke Huy Quan as Xian
The other Avatar spirit in the film is Xian, another ancient member of the cycle of rebirth that produced Aang and will continue beyond him. Ke Huy Quan broke out as a child actor in the 1980s with starring roles in The Goonies (1985) and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). Ke Huy Quan largely left the industry for a time before returning to acting in Finding 'Ohana (2021).
This was followed by his Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), which shot him back into the spotlight in a big way thanks to his soulful performance and impressive stunt work. Since then, Quan has found consistent work in supporting roles for films like Zootopia 2 (2025) and shows like Loki (2021), as well as starring roles in Love Hurts (2025).
Taika Waititi as Gorillavark
A powerful entity encountered in the Spirit Realm, Gorrilavark is the perfect role for Taika Waititi in the world of Avatar. The filmmaker was making waves in New Zealand with films like Eagle vs Shark (2007) and appearing in movies like Green Lantern (2011) before finding his breakout film with What We Do in the Shadows (2014).
Starring in the film, as well as co-writing and co-directing it, the vampire mockumentary became a big hit and set the groundwork for the FX reimagining What We Do in the Shadows (2019) as well as Waititi's biggest hits, Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), and Jojo Rabbit (2019). Since then, he's established himself as one of Hollywood's most distinct voices, making him ideal for the animated film.
