Mike Flanagan is one of the biggest names in horror. From bringing numerous Stephen King works to life to crafting some of the best, most tragic horror TV series, Flanagan has left a mark on the horror genre.

Over the years, he has steadily crafted his own cinematic universe, the Flanaverse, which includes a series of interconnected Netflix horror shows, beginning with the critically acclaimed The Haunting of Hill House (2018). Since his Netflix deal concluded with The Fall of the House of Usher (2023), fans are likely wondering what’s next for the Stephen King fan and TV horror master. Use our guide to find all of Flanagan’s horror movies and TV shows coming in 2026 and beyond.

01

Clayface

Flanagan is entering the DC Universe through his involvement in Clayface. Flanagan co-wrote the screenplay with Hossein Amini and developed the initial story, which he pitched to James Gunn and Peter Safran. His commitments to other projects prevented him from directing Clayface, but Gunn has confirmed the story is almost entirely his, with a few tweaks from Amini. Meanwhile, the film is shaping up to be quite a unique take on the DC character.

Clayface is going the body horror route as it sees actor Matt Hagen (Tom Rhys Harries) transform into Clayface after undergoing an experiment to cure his facial disfigurement. The teaser trailer promises to deliver on the horror, raising anticipation for the unique blend of body horror and comic book action. Meanwhile, Clayface is a true passion project for Flanagan, which he began working on in 2021.

Carrie

Stephen King’s Carrie is getting another adaptation, this time from prominent King fan Flanagan. Flanagan’s Carrie TV series will premiere on Amazon Prime Video sometime in October 2026. It marks his fourth King adaptation after Gerald’s Game (2017), Doctor Sleep (2019), and The Life of Chuck (2024).

Flanagan has been a little elusive on how his Carrie TV show will change the original story, but he has confirmed it will be a modern retelling. He told MovieWeb, “I think we're going to tell a story that will be surprising and impactful, very relevant to our modern society and to issues in our country." There are many interesting ways a modern setting changes the story, such as the presence of cellphones and social media. Flanagan also earned King’s approval for the project, which bodes well for the adaptation.

Flanagan will direct and write the latest installment in The Exorcist franchise. The untitled Exorcist movie premieres in theaters on March 12, 2027. Initially, the franchise planned to expand with a sequel to The Exorcist: Believer (2023). However, the film’s poor reception led the franchise to pursue a soft reboot with Flanagan at the helm.

The new Exorcist film will lean more into the supernatural mystery genre, following a detective who is pulled into a dark case. Specific details of the plot remain under wraps, but the detective plot point makes us wonder if it will follow the horror/mystery tone of The Exorcist III (1990). Flanagan told THR that his take on The Exorcist could be the scariest film he has made to date.

The Dark Tower is arguably Flanagan’s most ambitious future project. In December of 2022, he announced that he had acquired the TV rights to Stephen King’s The Dark Tower and was planning a multi-season adaptation. King’s genre-bending book series consists of eight novels and is so expansive in scope that some fans believe it is unadaptable. The only prior attempt to adapt King’s series is the 2017 film of the same name, which critics and audiences panned.

Now, The Dark Tower lies in the capable hands of Flanagan. As of 2026, the series is still in early development and has no scheduled release date. However, Flanagan has confirmed that some of the scripts are done. If his vision comes to fruition, he hopes to do justice to King’s work with five seasons and two feature films.
