After a thrilling three seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+, the Mandalorian and Grogu head to the big screen in… well, The Mandalorian and Grogu

In his latest galactic jaunt, our favourite helmetted hero, who is (mostly) played by Pedro Pascal, is working as an “independent contractor” for the New Republic, weeding out Imperial scum and reporting to Sigourney Weaver’s Colonel Ward.

What follows is a nail-biting adventure as Din Djarin and his adoptive son set out on what may well be their most important journey yet. If you haven’t had a chance to catch the film yet, you might want to stop reading now, as there are spoilers ahead. But if you have, strap in as we go through the film at lightspeed.

What is Din Djarin’s Mission in The Mandalorian and Grogu?

Basically, Mando and Grogu are sent by Ward to retrieve the kidnapped Rotta the Hutt because, in exchange for his safe return, the Hutt twins will supposedly give the New Republic intel on Imperial warlord Commander Coin. For context, Rotta is the son of Star Wars icon Jabba the Hutt.

Mando isn’t happy about this mission, but he complies after Ward throws in a new Razor Crest as part of the bargain. Rotta, who is an acclaimed fighter in an underground combat ring run by crime boss Lord Janu, is initially resistant, claiming that Janu will set him free after his final fight the next day.

Lo and behold, Janu isn’t actually that trustworthy: he plans to keep giving Rotta opponents until he dies. Mando himself also ends up in the ring when, after telling Rotta this, he snitches on the heroes. Meanwhile, Grogu is kept in a cage by Janu as a pet.

When it becomes apparent to the Hutt heir that Mando was right, the two team up. A bunch of monsters escape from the ring, and as this happens, Mando, Grogu, and Rotta flee. Rotta once again tries to make a break for it, but he’s captured by Mando’s ally Zeb. Rotta then reveals that Janu actually is Coin, so the quadrant goes back to capture him.

While Mando delivers Coin to Ward, he refuses to return Rotta to the Hutts. Ward is unhappy with this because of the impact this might have on the New Republic’s relationship with the Hutts. Still, Mando helps Rotta leave, and everything looks like it’ll end happily until bounty hunter Embo captures Mando.

What Happens in the Ending of ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’?

Embo takes Din Djarin to the Hutts, who also seem to have retrieved Rotta, whom they are now torturing. They force Mando to fight a huge dragon-snake-hybrid creature, and just in the nick of time, Grogu and the Anzellans show up. With a little help from a grenade, Grogu helps Djarin beat the creature.

But Mando doesn’t get away unscathed — he receives a scratch from the animal, which is actually poisonous. Given that the ship the Anzellans and Grogu came in was only Baby Yoda-sized, Mando tries to convince Grogu to leave with them. However, he ends up staying behind. While he uses the Force to heal Djarin’s wound, Grogu can’t do anything about the poison. So, Mando is out of action for a while, and it’s up to Grogu to care for him.

For a while, it’s a little touch-and-go as to whether he will survive. During this time, Grogu steals food from someone living on this planet. When he returns, this newfound ally ends up giving him some kind of natural cure for the poison, which works a treat.

Mando and Grogu then decide to fight the Hutts. After a thrilling battle involving a lot of droids, a nice bit of Karma ensues as the Hutt twins end up falling into the same beastly enclosure that they trapped Djarin in previously. Rotta falls in there, too, but Grogu saves him with the Force. It’s also worth noting that Embo escapes, so presumably, this won’t be the last we see of him.

Even though they won the battle, the number of droids they still need to fight makes things dicey for Mando and Grogu. Fortunately, Ward and a fleet of X-wings show up and save the day. Once the trio are rescued, Rotta decides to work for the New Republic, while Mando and Grogu head off in their Razor Crest for their next adventure.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is playing in theatres now, and will eventually land on Disney+ later this year.

Once a lone bounty hunter, Mandalorian Din Djarin and his apprentice Grogu embark on an exciting new Star Wars adventure.
