The Boys' Cast Reveal Their Favourite Guilty Pleasure Rewatches | Sorry Not Sorry
Having been a massive success since it first launched, The Boys is currently screening its fifth and final season.
Episodes are dropping weekly on Prime Video, and fans are tuning in in their droves to find out whether Hughie, Butcher, Starlight, and the rest of the team will be able to take down maniacal supe, Homelander, once and for all.
The odds are stacked against them, but whatever way the season finale ends up going, it is almost certain to be memorable. With such quality from the start, there is little chance that anyone will ever be classifying The Boys as a guilty pleasure, but what about the cast's guilty watches?

During a promotional event for The Boys’ final season, JustWatch grabbed a trio of cast members – Jessie T. Usher (A-Train), Colby Minifie (Ashley), and Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk) – to find out what programmes and movies they unashamedly love, despite what others might think. Guilty pleasures are subjective and, as the saying goes, one man’s trash is another’s treasure, but it’s highly unlikely that any of this team’s choices are going to result in ridicule or cancellation.
Colby Minifie (Ashley) Watches Fleabag On Loop
Having arrived on The Boys as a PR representative for the Seven, Colby Minifie’s character Ashley has had one of the roughest rides in the series. One of the few humans working up close with Homelander, Ashley risks her life every time she is in his presence, though her status during the final season places her as Vice President, so a tad more powerful than before. Her life is no less stressful, though, and having to act in that constant state of anxiety must take a toll, and so Colby Minifie’s rewatch pick of Fleabag makes sense.
Created by and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fleabag navigates the life of a ‘Fleabag,’ a woman trying to put on a brave face in spite of the tragedy that she is dealing with. A dramedy that became a cultural phenomenon, some parallels can be drawn between Fleabag and Ashley, with both doing their best to suppress their true feelings. Running for just two seasons and 12 episodes, Fleabag has left a lasting impression on British television. Fleabag also has had a deep impact on Minifie, who shared, “Fleabag, I’ve watched that eight or nine times. The whole season. I love it so much, and I don’t feel guilty about rewatching it ever.”
Underdog Stories Are Always a Win For Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk)
In The Boys, Laz Alonso plays MM or Mother’s Milk, one of the core members of the team trying to overthrow Homelander and the other deranged supes. MM is the strong, silent type, the reliable member of the team, and a man with a love of music-based t-shirts. By being part of the Boys crew, MM is also an underdog; defeating Homelander is going to be a David versus Goliath event, but the underdog overcoming insurmountable odds is nothing new to Laz Alonso.
When asked what his guilty pleasure rewatches are, Laz Alonso had a whole list of answers, and all fit into the mould of the little guy claiming victory: “Gladiator, Braveheart, and Rocky. Anything that shows someone who achieves victory in the face of defeat.”
Gladiator, Braveheart, and Rocky are far from guilty picks. All seen as classic works of cinema, each of them amassing a range of awards and nominations, but the common story thread between them highlights that guilty narrative strand that Laz Alonso cannot resist. Other underdog films, those that probably align closer to the guilty side of pleasure, include Eddie the Eagle, who, although he isn't strictly victorious, proved that a can-do spirit will get you far. Another would be the children’s sports classic The Mighty Ducks, as well as the comedy Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.
Jessie T. Usher (A-Train) Has Passed His Guilty Love to His Daughter
When JustWatch approached Jessie T. Usher about his guilty rewatch pleasure, he was quick to point out that, “I don’t feel guilty about watching anything.” He then went on to admit a deep admiration for a certain character who lives in a pineapple under the sea, “I love SpongeBob, though.” A grown man proclaiming his love for a kids' cartoon could be seen as embarrassing, but Usher remained firm in his choice: “I think SpongeBob is one of the funniest cartoons ever invented.”
Jessie T. Usher certainly is not the first person to have failed to outgrow SpongeBob SquarePants. The cartoon series first aired back in 1999 and is still going strong today with a variety of spin-off shows and movies. There is something about the fast food worker and his nice but dim bestie, Patrick, that is charming to adults and children alike. It is this magic that Jessie T. Usher is particularly fond of: “Now I have a kid and she loves SpongeBob too, so we can watch it together.”
With over 25 years of episodes and movies to catch up on, it looks like there’s plenty of opportunity for dad and daughter SpongeBob times.
