Antony Starr Rewatches This Western Drama Every Year | Sorry Not Sorry
With The Boys now in its fifth and final season, stars Karl Urban and Antony Starr are about to have a lot of free time on their hands.
The roles of Billy Butcher and Homelander have consumed the pair since 2019, and now, with the end in sight, they have definitely earned some time to crash out in front of the TV and relax. But what movies and TV shows will they be watching?

Speaking with JustWatch at a red carpet event for The Boys, the duo shared which films and TV programmes they enjoy watching over and over again. Karl Urban has a range of answers covering a variety of movies, but for Antony Starr, it is all about the cult TV series Deadwood.
Deadwood Is A Yearly Watch For Antony Starr
Although well-respected with a loyal fanbase, Deadwood has never properly broken through into the mainstream. Whereas the likes of Breaking Bad and The Sopranos have defined a generation, Deadwood has been content lurking in the background, waiting for viewers to discover it. Starring Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane, and Brad Dourif, Deadwood ran for three seasons between 2004 and 2006 and told the stories of the residents of Deadwood, South Dakota. Set in the late 1800s, Deadwood is essential viewing for Western fans.
For Starr, Deadwood is everything. During his chat with JustWatch, he took the opportunity to list all the reasons he loves it, “Deadwood. The scripts are incredible. The performances are amazing…It’s just fantastic.” Starr is 100% accurate when he says the acting on Deadwood is incredible, as Timothy Olyphant was born to play Seth Bullock, with fans desperate to see him play the role at least once more. Starr also shared that Deadwood isn’t just a show he enjoys, but one that he watches on rotation, “I watch it every year and every time I see new things.” Repeat viewing is vital to sustaining the longevity of a television show, and with so many nuances to analyse, Deadwood certainly fills that brief.
The Antony Starr Show That Everyone Should Watch At Least Once
Antony Starr’s adoration for Deadwood might explain his reasons for signing up to star in his former show, Banshee. Before playing egotistical villain Homelander on The Boys, Antony Starr played Lucas Hood on Banshee. An ex-con who infiltrates the small town of Banshee by claiming the identity of a dead sheriff. He uses his cover to address some unfinished business from his past, but ends up locking heads with the sinister Kai Proctor. As with Deadwood, Banshee is packed full of memorable characters, fantastic performances, and enough twists in the narrative to warrant repeat viewings.
Banshee is also incredibly violent, and is most definitely a show for those who like their television with a healthy side of action. Throughout his four-season arc as Lucas Hood, Antony Starr got to show off his fighting talents, with Banshee offering a never-ending onslaught of graphic, brutal violence. In addition to all of the bone breaking and bloodshed, the story was dark, complex, and in the instance of Proctor and his relationship to his niece, pretty depraved. Much like Deadwood, Banshee is an underseen gem that should have been huge.
Karl Urban’s Quartet Of Rewatchable Movies
Whereas Antony Starr had his rewatch answer primed to go, Karl Urban took a little time to consider his response. After a brief pause for thought, he confirmed not one, but four films that always bring him back, “I really love No Country for Old Men. I also love There Will Be Blood, Get Carter, [and] Cool Hand Luke. I could watch those movies again and again. Each of Karl Urban’s selections is a stone-cold classic, unless by Get Carter he means the ill-received remake with Sylvester Stallone, which I highly doubt. The original Get Carter and Cool Hand Luke are iconic movies for the older generation, with No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood being more recent films to inspire creatives.
Although very different titles, Urban’s selections all feature a male protagonist getting caught up in dire situations. This collection of titles explains why Urban was drawn to his The Boys character of Billy Butcher, as his character definitely fits the stuck in a terrible scenario brief.
Hopefully, Butcher’s fate will be less bleak than that of some of the characters within Urban’s repeat viewing, but only time will tell.
