Spider-Man: Brand New Day - Every Major Box Office Record So Far From The Highest Grossing US Movie Ever
Another brand new day, another brand new box office record broken by Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
As of September 16, the MCU’s latest juggernaut is now the highest-grossing domestic U.S. release ever, eclipsing an eleven-year-old record held by the once seemingly unassailable Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
For box-office bean-counters, this particular accolade has been on the cards ever since Tom Holland’s beloved web-slinger beat out Avengers: Endgame to clock up the biggest opening weekend haul of all time back at the beginning of August. Since then, the records have fallen quickly — check out all of the biggies in the list below.
July 30 — Spider-Man Smashes Avengers: Endgame‘s Thursday Preview Record

Was the writing on the wall as soon as Spider-Man: Brand New Day notched up a whopping $72m in Thursday preview sales alone?
Arriving in the cultural slipstream of Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, and Zendaya’s appearances in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, it immediately Hulk-smashed its way through Avengers: Endgame’s previous record of $60m from 2019, setting the tone for the weeks that followed.
Total Box Office: $72 million
August 3 — Nudges Endgame Out to Land the Biggest Opening Weekend of All Time

After laying waste to the first record that came its way with that remarkable Thursday haul, Brand New Day powered through its opening weekend, landed the biggest Friday number ever ($169.3m) followed by the second-biggest Saturday and Sunday.
That left Holland's fourth solo feature as Peter Parker with a total of $360.1m overall on Monday morning, meaning that it beat Avengers: Endgame’s previous record ($357.1m) by a slim $3m margin — which was more than enough for the Russo brothers to take notice and doff their caps.
Total Box Office: $360.1 million
August 10 — Becomes Highest-Grossing Hollywood Film Ever in India

If an example was needed of Spider-Man’s universal appeal, consider that Brand New Day is now by far the highest-ever grossing Hollywood release in India — with a haul of roughly $60m that far exceeds the previous record of $45m held by Avatar: The Way of Water.
Could the appearance of Pavitr Prabhakar (Spider-Man India, voiced in the Hindi version by the famous Indian cricketer Shubman Gill) in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse have had something to do with this uptick in popularity? It certainly can’t have hurt its chances.
Total Box Office: $1.67 billion
September 4 — Becomes the Fastest Movie to Cross $900m Domestically

As Brand New Day web-swung its way through the competition in August, barreling towards its current record-breaking haul, it naturally became the quickest to reach a bunch of figures along the way, as well as hitting the #1 spot in a bunch of different categories.
Among those figures, you’ll find the biggest Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday on record, as well as the fastest movie to reach $250m, $500m, $700m, $800m and $900m domestically.
The last of those milestones was reached in just 36 days, a full two weeks earlier than Star Wars: The Force Awakens had managed it.
Total Box Office: $2.34 billion
September 7 — Tom Holland Makes Summer 2026 the Biggest of All Time in the U.S.

When movie historians look back on the record-breaking summer of 2026, Tom Holland’s name will be impossible to ignore. The 30-year-old superstar was front and centre for both The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day — two movies that have so far contributed more than $1.5 billion to the summer’s all-time record $4.76 billion in the United States.
Total Box Office: $2.42 billion
September 13 — Tom Holland Becomes the Highest-Grossing Actor of All Time

It's important to note that, in the age of the MCU and mega-franchise filmmaking in general, the all-time ranking of highest-grossing stars doesn’t exactly mean what it used to. It’s still notable when there’s a shift in the top spot, and not least when that actor is so clearly becoming the most powerful Hollywood star of his generation.
For a while there, it seemed like Zoe Saldana (Oscar-winning actor of Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Trek and Pirates of the Caribbean fame) and Scarlett Johansson (MCU regular and star of recent Jungle Book and Jurassic World movies) would be passing the torch between them for years to come. But Brand New Day and The Odyssey have propelled Holland beyond them.
With a total gross of $15.55 billion (a remarkable $648m average for his 24 movies), the recently turned 30-year-old is also the youngest person ever to top this long-standing chart.
Total Box Office: $2.45 billion
September 16 — Beats Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Become the Biggest U.S. Domestic Release of All Time

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (otherwise known as 2016), J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens decimated Avatar’s previously held record of $760m by ending its initial theatrical run with a whopping $936m at the U.S. domestic box office.
A little over 10 years later, Lucasfilm has finally handed over that crown (quite graciously, it should be said) to Tom Holland’s fourth outing as everyone's favourite neighbourhood superhero. Whether it has the legs (or web cartridges) to go on to become the first-ever release to make over $1 billion at the domestic box office will be interesting to see — but with the way things have been going, you certainly wouldn’t bet against it.
Total Box Office: $2.45 billion
