Now that Daredevil: Born Again has wrapped up another season, we can turn our attention to the next big-screen entry in the MCU, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, and Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, are closely linked thanks to the fact that they both live in New York City. Peter might have a little more experience with the cosmic side of Marvel, but he’s just as much of a street-level hero as Matt, really.

The pair have even crossed paths once before in the MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home, though Peter didn’t realise just how special his lawyer was at the time. It’ll be very different the next time they meet – but when will that be?

Here are all the ways Born Again Season 2 might impact Brand New Day, including the chance of a reunion for the two heroes.

1. New York City Has A New Leader

By the end of Daredevil: Born Again, Season 2, Episode 10, New York has rid itself of Wilson Fisk. Backed into a corner, the brute crushed and killed a slew of protestors before eventually realising he couldn’t win. To evade prosecution, Fisk agreed to give up his role as Mayor, renounce his citizenship and leave the city.

That opens the door for Sheila Rivera to take over as Mayor, and as we see in the trailer for Brand New Day, she is a big fan of Spidey. She even gives him a key to the city, which is odd considering he was nowhere to be seen during the climactic fight with Fisk. However, it does tell us that the Webslinger will be New York’s favourite hero by the time his new film arrives.

2. The City Also Has A Power Vacuum

The downside of Wilson Fisk being driven out of town is that there’s now a power vacuum in the criminal underworld. In Kingpin’s absence, you can guarantee there’ll be a whole host of rogues desperate to rise to the top and take his place.

Whether that’s a problem Spider-Man will have to deal with specifically remains to be seen, but there’s bound to be at least some semblance of chaos in Hell’s Kitchen that could bleed over into Peter’s jurisdiction. He’ll need some help handling all of that, and that’s where our good, old friend The Punisher comes in…

3. The Punisher Was Too Busy For Daredevil

By the looks of the Brand New Day trailer, Frank Castle is going to play a pretty big part in the new Marvel movie. That’s great news for anyone who’s been eager to see Jon Bernthal really sink his teeth into the MCU, but it did mean we were deprived of seeing The Punisher in Born Again Season 2. This was especially odd given that he was heavily involved in the first season.

We know scheduling was the main obstacle to Bernthal returning alongside Red to take on Fisk, but there will need to be a solid in-world explanation as to why he skipped town. We’ll potentially learn more when The Punisher: One Last Kill drops, but either way, it’ll be exciting to see Frank team up with Spider-Man.

4. Matt Murdock Is In Prison… Will Spider-Man Break Him Out?

After revealing his true identity as Daredevil to the world, Matt Murdock was always going to have to pay for his crimes, no matter how much of a hero he may be. By the time the finale of Born Again Season 2 concludes, Matt is sent to prison. Now, there’s every chance we’ll have to wait for Daredevil Season 3 for him to regain his freedom, but wouldn’t it be a lot cooler if Spider-Man broke him out?

In the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, Peter is taking on what appear to be members of The Hand – well-known adversaries that Matt has faced before – and he’s doing it all in a prison. Surely, that can’t be a coincidence.

5. Superpowered Rogues Are Working For Valentina Allegra de Fontaine & Mr Charles

One of the more interesting subplots in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 was Mr Charles recruiting superpowered beings and sending them on mercenary missions on behalf of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Luke Cage did a few jobs for him, and now it looks like Bullseye will be his next little helper.

With this in mind, and the fact that there are tonnes of bad guys in the Brand New Day trailer – like Scorpion, Boomerang, and potentially Tombstone – there’s a chance these rogues will be either working or auditioning for Val and Mr Charles, hoping to secure their next gig. Let’s just hope Spidey keeps them all on the unemployment line a little longer!

Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.
Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he's devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.
