House of the Dragon Cast Share Their Characters' Favourite Movies
The House of the Dragon cast have some very diverse choices of what movies their on-screen characters would enjoy.
Audiences have come to expect battles, betrayal, and dragons from Games of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, and Season 3 has provided plenty of the same. The latest season opened with the Battle of the Gullet, a sea-set tussle that came with a shock death or two, and it hasn’t let up since.

With so much going on, and Westeros without televisions, there is little to do other than plot to take the Iron Throne. But what if they did have access to our modern world of streaming and cinema? JustWatch grabbed several members of the House of the Dragon cast to find out what movies would win the hearts of their characters, and the answers are not what anyone was expecting.
Lady Baela Would Love Hidden Figures
Lady Baela Targaryen is one of the many dragonriders in House of the Dragon. She rides Moondancer and was betrothed to, and very much in love with, her cousin, Prince Jacaerys 'Jace' Velaryon. Entirely loyal to Rhaenyra Targaryen’s claim to the Iron Throne, Lady Baela is a fierce dragonrider unafraid of battle. However, in the aftermath of the Battle of the Gullet, she might view things differently.
The character is played by singer and actor Bethany Antonia who had an interesting choice for a movie that Lady Baela would enjoy: Hidden Figures.
Antonia explained, “Hidden Figures… I think she would really enjoy listening about women doing incredible things and not getting credit for them.” With Lady Baela thus far always the woman behind the man, it fits that she would enjoy seeing other women thrive.
A Michael Mann Classic Would Intrigue Corlys Valaryon
Steve Toussaint’s Corlys Velaryon has been a steady fan favourite since the start of the show. Known as the Sea Snake, Corlys also holds the title of Lord of Driftwood and is the head of House Velaryon, as well as being Hand to the Queen. He has a lot of titles, but all have been hard-earned, the character yet another figure of loyalty and bravery. He is, however, also something of a pirate, having amassed great wealth on his voyages across Essos. Does his pirate nature make him a prime candidate for the Pirates of the Caribbean movies? Not according to Toussaint.
Speaking with JustWatch he opted for a more modern day iteration of the pirate, the bank robber. “It would be Heat,” he said. The Michael Mann movie features acting titans Al Pacino and Robert De Niro on opposite sides of the law as bank robber extraordinaire and the police chief hunting him.
It’s a slick and stylish tale of crime, and Toussaint understands exactly why it would appeal to Corlys. “It’s about people who are very good at what they do, and who are very disciplined," he added. "I think that’s what Corlys Velaryon is. He’s all about discipline and all about getting it right down to the tiniest detail.”
Prince Jace And Lady Rhaena Could Watch A Pixar Gem Together
Ratatouille is a Disney Pixar classic and follows the journey of a rat called Remy who dreams of becoming a chef. Although dismissed as a film just for kids, Ratatouille, like most other movies from the studio, has a universal message. Here, it is to follow your dreams, and that no matter your background, you can achieve great things. It is a great core message that could easily speak to several players in the House of the Dragon, and two of the cast gave Ratatouille as their answer, but for very different reasons.
Prince Jace Targaryen actor, Harry Collet, chose Ratatouille, citing, “because he likes to make decisions.” The answer was short and to the point, but technically the movie sees Remy puppeteering a human in order to live out his cooking dreams, so we think we understand Collett’s thought process. At the same time that Collect picked Ratatouille, so too did co-star Phoebe Campbell who plays Jace’s cousin, Lady Rhaena Targaryen.
Lady Rhaena has had a tough time on the show. Having failed to secure a dragon of her own, she set out to tame a wild dragon and got some success with Sheepstealer, only for their bond to result in a huge family tragedy.
Rhaena’s obsession with getting her own dragon is what sparked Campbell’s selection. “Ratatouille is the answer because Rhaena likes animals. She likes feeling connected to animals, and I just think that’s a whole life that she likes to dive into,” she told us. If it’s animals she’s wanting, there are many Disney movies featuring far more creatures than rats that cook. Once she’s finished Ratatouille she should probably give The Lion King and The Jungle Book a whirl.
