Everything We Know About Romeo Beckham's Queer Tennis Movie Forty Love
After mastering tennis, football, and modelling, it looks like Romeo Beckham is once again seeking a new challenge. But this one might be his highest-profile yet.
As the son of football legend David Beckham and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, some may argue that the 23-year-old is something of a nepo baby. But as one of the stars of upcoming tennis movie Forty Love, Romeo may well end up proving these doubters wrong.
I mean, with a name like Romeo, isn’t starring in a romance movie kind of inevitable?
What Is The Plot Of Forty Love?
Forty Love focuses on star tennis player Sacha Gallo, who has been diligently training with his father to win a prestigious tennis award in Paris. But his world is turned on its axis after he meets his new rival, played by none other than Romeo Beckham.
“For the first time, he faces an opponent of an entirely different nature — love,” the synopsis says. “A force as exhilarating as it is destabilising — and far more dangerous than anything he has encountered on the court.”
Producer Hugo Sélignac describes the film as a “sensual, romantic and deeply moving romantic fable and coming-of-age story” about the “demands of high-level sport, and everything that lies beneath the surface […] led by outstanding performances.”
So, in other words, what we’re looking at is a mixture of Heated Rivalry and Challengers. And honestly? It sounds like a whale of a time.
Who Is In The Cast And Crew Of Forty Love?
In terms of the minds behind the movie, Forty Love is the directorial debut of Pierre-Ange Carlotti, best known for his fashion photography work. Carlotti also wrote the script along with Gaëlle Macé.
Meanwhile, Paco de Bary and the aforementioned Sélignac are on board as producers, hailing from Mediawan company Chi-Fou-Mi Productions. Studiocanal and Manna Studios also serve as co-producers. Reflecting on Carlotti as director, Sélignac said he “long admired” his work as a photographer.
“There is a rare tenderness, melancholy and strength in his images, and his move into directing felt like a natural next step to me,” he said.
070 Shake and Johan Lenox will be responsible for the film’s score.
As for the cast, Beckham will star opposite Paul Kercher, who is playing Sacha Gallo. Other confirmed cast members include Guillaume Canet, Benjamin Voisin, and Catherine Deneuve, the latter of whom is set to make a cameo appearance.
When Will Forty Love Be Released?
The movie is already in post-production. Filming wrapped in late 2025. It is scheduled for a November 25 theatrical release date in France. With the film being distributed by Studiocanal, we can expect a UK cinematic release window to fall around the same time as this.
In the meantime, we will just have to sit tight and wait for a trailer, which will hopefully give us an insight into how palpable Beckham and Kercher’s on-screen chemistry really is.
