5 Important Details You Need to Remember Before Euphoria Season 3
It’s been a really long time coming, but Euphoria will return to our screens on April 12 for the third and final season. That’s more than four years since the previous season ended, with production delays leaving us hanging on.
With eight new episodes on the way, there’ll be plenty to sink our teeth into. The trailer for Euphoria Season 3 teases so much drama, and it looks like the problematic ensemble is in line for a chaotic ride once again.
Still, with four years of life getting in the way, you’d be forgiven for forgetting the key plot points from Season 2. So, here are five important details you must remember before diving into the next instalment.
1. Rue Lost $10,000 Worth of Drugs
Zendaya puts in phenomenal work as Rue, the central character of this scintillating story, but she’s never had it easy. After battling drug addiction and going sober, you’d think things were going to go smoothly for Rue, but her commitment to sell $10,000 worth of drugs for Laurie backfired dramatically.
Rue’s mum and sister found the suitcase full of pills and narcotics and, fearing she had relapsed, decided to flush it all away. As we see in the trailer, Laurie has not forgotten about their deal, and Rue is going to be in big trouble if she doesn’t find a way to pay off her debts.
2. Nate and Cassie Broke Up
One of the major talking points from the new Euphoria trailer is that Cassie and Nate are now married. The new episodes feature a substantial time-jump, so, naturally, relationships will have developed since we last saw these characters, but this is particularly surprising given that the pair had broken up by the end of the Season 2 finale.
Their wild fling was the juiciest storyline before, and it looks set to be just as crazy this time around. It’ll be very interesting to see how Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi tackle it, given they’ve become two of the most famous actors in Hollywood over the last couple of years. Will we see a “Wuthering Heights” style toxic love story between Nate and Cassie? Honestly, the answer is probably yes.
3. Ashtray and Fez Were Raided by a SWAT Team
Lexi’s play was incredible, but poor Fez never got to see it unfold as he was too busy getting raided and fending off an attack from a SWAT team. The shocking turn of events occurred after Ashtray realised Custer was going rogue on them and helping the police. The troubled youngster stabbed Custer, armed police came rushing in, and all hell broke loose.
Ashtray ignored Fez’s pleas to surrender and ended up getting shot dead. Meanwhile, Fez was carted off to prison, which is kind of fair given he’s a notorious drug dealer. The tragic thing is, Fez was a lovely guy, but we’ll never see him again as the actor who plays him, Angus Cloud, died in 2023 after an accidental overdose (as per BBC).
4. Nate Got His Dad Arrested
Fez wasn’t the only character to go to prison in Euphoria Season 2. Nate’s dad, Cal, had been on a dangerous downward spiral from the very first episode of the show, and he hit a breaking point last time out. Cal got very drunk, was kicked out of a gay bar, told his family he’s had sex with a lot of men, and urinated all over his house.
However, his world really came crashing down when Nate decided it was time to stand up to his father and serve him his comeuppance after a life of sexual debauchery. Having acquired Cal’s sordid sex tapes, Nate traps his dad in a warehouse and calls the police. We saw Cal briefly in the trailer for the new season, but how much he’ll feature in the show remains to be seen, as Eric Dane, the actor playing Cal Jacobs, also tragically died recently.
5. Maddy and Jules Escaped Toxic Relationships
Most of the characters in Euphoria suffered in Season 2, but in a way, Maddy and Jules came out in a more positive place. Maddy’s tumultuous relationship with Nate came to an end when he got involved with her best friend, Cassie. That culminated in her beating Cassie up and finally cutting all ties with Nate after years of heartache. Good for her!
The same applies to Jules, whose complex and co-dependent relationship with Rue was doing nobody any favours. To be fair, it’s Rue who sees the light and puts her sobriety first by ending the relationship, despite Jules telling her she still loves her after Lexi’s play. Either way, we all know Jules is better off without Rue, and it’ll be fascinating to see how far she’s come since leaving that love story behind.
You can find Euphoria Season 3 on HBO Max, with the first episode airing on April 12.
