How Daredevil: Born Again Season 2's Finale Sets Up Season 3
The scintillating second season of Daredevil: Born Again has just come to a close, but we’re already looking ahead to potential storylines for Season 3.
Time to get into spoiler territory: After the explosive events of Born Again Season 2, Episode 10, Matt Murdock is in prison, Wilson Fisk is marooned on a private island, and the city of New York is preparing for a fresh start under a new leader.
If, as fans of the MCU, we know anything by now, it’s that periods of peace don’t last very long and heroes and villains don’t stay exiled for long. So, here are a few theories as to what the next instalment of Daredevil: Born Again could bring.
Did Marvel Just Tease The Mighty Avengers?
If you’ve been pining for a return to the Marvel-Netflix collaboration that started this particular iteration of Daredevil, you’ll have been delighted to see Jessica Jones join forces with Matt this season. Better yet, Luke Cage turned up briefly in the finale, which means The Defenders gang is well and truly canon in this universe.
This could lead to a Mighty Avengers storyline in the future – a team of heroes who step up in the absence of the more typical Avengers if they’re off fighting a cosmic battle. Luke Cage leads this crew in the comics, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Spider-Man and maybe even the new Falcon (Joaquin Torres) lining up alongside Luke, Jessica Jones, and the new White Tiger (Angela Del Toro).
Are The Dark Avengers Coming To The MCU?
That might not be the only new team assembled in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3. In the finale of Season 2, Dex (aka Bullseye) somehow passes airport security and jets off to somewhere in Asia. Unfortunately, sitting next to him on the plane is Mr Charles, who we already know has a penchant for putting dangerous plans in place.
Bullseye will likely be his next recruit, and if they’re heading to the lawless island of Madripoor as many suspect, Mr Charles might end up with his own team. The Dark Avengers are a little bit like the Thunderbolts, only with far fewer morals. We know the Power Broker (Sharon Carter) is in Madripoor, and there’s every chance Zemo could resurface, too.
A New Villain (With a Familiar Face) Will Rise in Daredevil Season 3
We all saw it coming a mile off, but the Season 2 finale showed Heather Glenn finally take her next step into madness by trying on the Muse mask. After shooting the serial killer dead in Season 1, Heather has been left traumatised, and it’s led her down a very dark path.
Set photos from the Born Again Season 3 shoot have revealed a proper look at Lady Muse, the new villain’s name. She’s a tragic character, but a truly terrifying one, too. Given Heather’s role as a psychotherapist, we know she will come into contact with some questionable characters, but it might be Lady Muse who determines the best course of treatment for them from now on.
Will Season 3 Introduce A New Daredevil?
The star of the show is now in prison, so what’s going to happen to Daredevil while Matt Murdock serves time? Well, like most heroes, the person behind the mask is not necessarily important; it’s what they stand for that counts. With that in mind, someone else taking on the mantle of Daredevil is entirely plausible.
In the comics, it is Danny Rand who steps up to protect Hell’s Kitchen in Matt’s absence, and it’s widely expected that we will see the Iron Fist character crossover from the Marvel-Netflix series. Finn Jones, the actor who played the titular hero in that show, has already been spotted on set for Season 3, so we already know he’s back. Whether he can become a temporary Daredevil – especially given everyone knows the hero’s true identity – remains to be seen, but it would be a very cool storyline if handled correctly.
Wilson Fisk Finds His Way Home
Wilson Fisk may not have been served official justice for all his heinous crimes, but being exiled to an island by himself is going to cause the Kingpin a lot of pain. With no one to rule over and manipulate, and his beloved Vanessa gone, Fisk would probably lose (even more of) his mind if he stayed there too long.
If those Season 3 set leaks are anything to go by, Fisk finds his way back to New York. Sporting a big grey beard and a humbler costume, it seems Fisk will be keeping a lower profile. This vagrant vibe has connections to the comics, wherein the former Mayor tries to rebuild his empire from the shadows. With no fixed abode, no allies, and no citizenship, it will be interesting to see just how far Fisk can climb the ladder once more.
It’s A Long Shot, But We Could See Demon Daredevil
Remember in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 4, when Vanessa Fisk is killed, and Daredevil flees the scene? In the shattered window of Fogwell's Gym, Marvel fans thought they caught a glimpse of The Watcher, the mystical being who keeps an eye on major, cataclysmic events in the Marvel timeline.
It was theorised that The Watcher visited Daredevil because this moment was the start of something huge brewing in the MCU. Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum even leaned into the speculation with a tease on social media, though nothing has been confirmed. For what it’s worth, I think it was just a coincidence. But if The Watcher was indeed there, it could lead to a more cosmic storyline for Born Again Season 3.
Demon Daredevil is a version of the hero who has been transformed by a supernatural force, which we’ve seen happen in the Marvel Rivals game. Perhaps Matt strikes a deal with the devil to get himself out of prison? It’s a long shot that I can’t personally see happening, but stranger things have happened in the MCU!
Daredevil: Born Again is available to watch on Disney+ now.
