All of Charlize Theron's Upcoming Movies In 2027 and Beyond
There was a time when Charlize Theron was absolutely prolific and you couldn’t blink without another of her projects being in the pipeline. She’s not quite as busy lately, but there are still some exciting films on the way from the South African star.
In 2026, though, Theron was on the big screen in the film of the summer, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. In that epic tale she played Calypso, the goddess-like nymph who kept Odysseus on her island for seven years. Theron was also on the small screen in Netflix thriller Apex, where she was running for her life from a maniacal Taron Egerton.
Looking ahead, Theron has four movies (potentially) on the way that are in very different stages of development. She is also serving as producer on a handful of projects, including a very exciting adaptation of the Grady Hendrix novel The Final Girl Support Group. But, for the purpose of this little list, we’ll focus on her work as an actor.
Tyrant
Theron leads the line in Tyrant, a thriller with a very strong cast including the likes of Julia Garner and Demi Moore, as well as rising star Paapa Essiedu and the experienced head of Michael Chiklis. It’s a story set in the culinary world, which is described as having shades of Wolf of Wall Street and Whiplash – so, we can expect the characters to take things to the extreme in pursuit of greatness.
There is no release date for Tyrant just yet, but we do know that the film is in pre-production and it is the most advanced of the four titles on this list. David Weil will make his feature debut with this one (having previously only directed four episodes of the TV show Lisa). Weil also wrote the script alongside Cody Behan, who is equally as inexperienced.
Two For The Money
Justin Lin has lent his hand to a number of franchise hits like Star Trek Beyond and five Fast & Furious movies, as well as a couple of episodes of True Detective. Next up for the director is Two for the Money, a crime-fuelled action movie which will star Theron and former 007 Daniel Craig.
They’re not giving much away when it comes to the plot – all we know is that it’s about three major heists and how the thieves involved interact with one another throughout the course of the jobs. It’s in pre-production at the moment so we could be waiting a while, but it sounds interesting to say the least.
Dance Parents
We know just as little about Dance Parents, apart from the fact it will star Theron and Channing Tatum. It’s an original comedy story written by relative newcomer Meghan Malloy (she did work on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), and as you may have guessed from the title, it’s set in the world of competitive dance, where pushy parents are the norm.
The film was subject to a bidding war among six different studios before Universal won the rights, so it’s certainly hot property and one to watch. It’s billed as a family comedy, which means Theron and Tatum will have to be on their best behaviour in this one, and it’s also in pre-production at the moment.
Atomic Blonde 2
Whether Atomic Blonde 2 actually sees the light of day or not remains to be seen. Ever since the first Atomic Blonde movie back in 2017, Theron has been talking about making a sequel, and work did begin on the project in 2020. Clearly, things have stalled since then, with director David Leitch suggesting that the rights handover between Universal and Netflix was causing issues.
More recently, Theron herself told Elle that the sequel is unlikely to happen now. That would be a real shame, as the first comic book adaptation was a slick action flick which leaned into John Wick territory just the right amount. We’ll keep an eye on this one, but don’t hold your breath.
