Michael B. Jordan is still riding the crest of a wave right now after taking home the Oscar for Best Lead Actor at this year’s Academy Awards. His dual role in Sinners was a revelation, and it feels like he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves for a brilliant career that has included some stellar work already.
Now he’s got his hands on one of those golden statues, the world is Jordan’s oyster – even more than it was before. Every filmmaker and studio is going to be desperate to work with him, so what direction is he going to take his career now?
Here, we take a look at the eight projects Michael B. Jordan has in the pipeline, including some voice work in an animated adventure, a handful of action movies, and a couple of exciting sequels.
Swapped (2026)
Next up for Jordan is a real change of pace, as he puts his voice to good use for the upcoming Netflix movie, Swapped. From turning into a vampire for Ryan Coogler, the main man will now be transforming into a little cartoon critter in this body-swap comedy for kids. He’s voicing the main character, Ollie, who is an otter-like creature that ends up trading places with his bitter rival, a bird named Ivy (voiced by Juno Temple).
The film is out very soon, with a release date of May 1. It’ll be available exclusively on Netflix, of course, and it looks well worth a watch if you have young children to keep entertained. Fans of films such as Ice Age, Oliver & Company, and Ponyo should be all over this one.
The Thomas Crown Affair (2027)
Jordan is leading an all-star cast for a fresh remake of The Thomas Crown Affair next year, with Adria Arjona, Lily Gladstone, Ruth Negga, Aubrey Plaza, Kenneth Branagh, Paapa Essiedu, and his Black Panther co-star, Danai Gurira, joining him. It’s a heist movie with a romantic subplot, as the titular thief falls for the woman assigned to capture him – kind of like a Bond movie, with a role reversal.
What’s special about this movie is that Jordan will be taking on directorial duties. He made his debut with Creed III back in 2023, which was slick and stylish with epic action sequences, so we have high hopes for The Thomas Crown Affair. It’ll be released on March 5, 2027, and filming wrapped in November 2025, so things should all be going according to plan.
Miami Vice (2027)
There’s another reboot on the horizon for Jordan, as he’s set to star alongside Austin Butler in a new Miami Vice movie from Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski. We also know Dan Gilroy, who worked on Andor, will be writing the script, and there are even rumours that Tom Cruise will be signing on to play the main villain, so this could end up being very special.
There was a Miami Vice movie in 2006, with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell playing Ricardo Tubbs and James ‘Sonny’ Crockett. It really feels like this new version is once again tapping up two of the hottest stars in the world right now to give it another go. Hopefully, it strikes a similar balance of gritty action and playful energy as the Michael Mann film (and his TV show), while also bringing something new to the table. It’s due for release in August 2027.
I Am Legend 2 (TBA)
It feels like we’ve been waiting for I Am Legend 2 to get moving for years now. It was first announced in March 2022, and at the moment, we believe the script is still being worked on. Will Smith will return to play military scientist Robert Neville, while Jordan is on board in a currently unknown role.
It’s thought the story will take place between 20-30 years after the first movie, but it will follow on not from the theatrical ending, but from the alternate ending from the home release of I Am Legend. Spoiler alert: Neville survives, and he’s on the hunt for a cure to the mutant virus plaguing the Earth.
Creed IV (TBA)
This is by far the film I’m most excited about from Jordan’s upcoming filmography. The Creed movies are all excellent, each managing to toe the line between playing into the nostalgia of the Rocky franchise while also carving out a new path for their new, compelling characters. While Ryan Coogler injected his own flair into the first film, we’ve seen Steven Caple Jr. and Jordan himself take the director’s chair since, and they’ve both given us a knockout experience.
The last time we saw Jordan’s Adonis Creed in Creed III, he had defeated his troubled friend Damian Anderson in an intense 12-round battle, and all seemed right in the life of the boxing icon. Jordan has said he will “eventually, definitely” get around to making Creed IV, and he suggested he has “clever ways and interesting characters” that can take the franchise forward. Sign me up!
Methuselah (TBA)
This one has been in development since 2019, and previously had Tom Cruise linked to the leading role, but it’s Jordan’s project now. He will produce and star in Methuselah, while Danny Boyle is attached as the director of this biblical story of a man who has lived for 969 years and acquired a very unique set of skills in that time. It’s said this film will be rich in mythology and follow the blueprint of epic action flicks like Highlander.
The only issue is that there has not been a great deal of progress on the project. The last we heard, Simon Beaufoy was rewriting the script, and Warner Bros. is keen to turn Methuselah into a franchise. But with Jordan and Boyle both very busy men, it’s unclear when this will actually start production.
Rainbow Six (TBA)
Jordan previously tackled a Tom Clancy adaptation by starring in Without Remorse in 2021. That one wasn’t Jordan’s finest work, to be honest, but he’s getting another shot at playing a brutal and highly-skilled Navy SEAL in Rainbow Six. This project was first given the green light in 2023 and does not have a release date yet, but there has been some progress.
John Wick director Chad Stahelski is on board, which means you can expect some hard-hitting, visceral fight choreography and stunning visuals, at the very least. If you’re into films like Sicario and Zero Dark Thirty, you’re very likely to be interested in what these guys are cooking up.
Wrong Answer (TBA)
Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan have already collaborated on four feature films to date, and it looks like they’ll be joining forces once again for a movie called Wrong Answer. It’ll be a real vibe switch for the pair of them after Sinners, with Jordan attached to star as a teacher who causes controversy when he changes his students’ test scores in order to secure funding for his high school.
There is no release date for this yet, and we know Coogler is very busy working on both Black Panther 3 and his X-Files reboot. But with him and Jordan having the world at their feet right now, you’d like to think they can get this one off the ground at some point. As a bonus, acclaimed author Ta-Nehisi Coates is writing the screenplay – he’s the man behind one of the best Black Panther comic book stories, called ‘A Nation Under Our Feet’ from 2016, which is well worth checking out.
