You’re never far away from a Batman movie, and thankfully, if you’re a fan of the Caped Crusader, there are multiple Bat-related projects in the pipeline as we speak.

After the success of The Batman, we know Robert Pattinson is going to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne and Gotham City’s protector in the sequel. However, with James Gunn’s new version of the DC Universe running concurrently, there is scope for even more stories centred around the Dark Knight.

The future is looking promising for Batman, with sequels and spin-offs, an animated flick, and the follow-up to a scintillating series set in Pattinson’s timeline. Here are all the Batman movies and TV shows coming up this year and beyond.

01

Clayface

While Batman himself is not expected to show up in Clayface later this year, it’s still very much a project tied to the iconic vigilante. The titular villain is one of the most interesting members of Batman’s rogues’ gallery – a character steeped in tragedy who lends himself perfectly to body horror.

There is some great talent attached to this upcoming movie, including a script by horror master Mike Flanagan, The Batman director Matt Reeves attached as producer, and actors like Eddie Marsan and Naomi Ackie among the cast. Judging by the trailer, we’re in for a really creepy film, and it’ll be fascinating to see this character in a live-action movie for the first time.

There’s a whole new Batman movie trilogy on the way that you may not have heard about yet. If you’re a fan of Batman comic books, though, you’ll probably be familiar with the story arc the trio of animated films are going to adapt from. Batman: Knightfall drops later in 2026, or, at least, the first instalment does, and it’ll see the titular hero broken, physically and mentally.

Remember in The Dark Knight Rises when Bane defeats Batman down in the sewers, smashing Bruce’s back over his knee? That act of violence is the inciting incident at the heart of this story. Knightfall will explore the aftermath of that in far greater detail, and with even more chaotic repercussions.

The big one we’ve all been waiting for is finally on its way. After an enthralling introduction to R-Batz in 2022, anticipation has been high for The Batman: Part II, but script delays have held up production for quite some time. Thankfully, director Matt Reeves shared tantalising test footage and made a few exciting cast announcements in May, which means the sequel is well and truly up and running now.

Very little is known about the movie at this stage. We know Sebastian Stan is in as Harvey Dent, which means Two-Face is on his way, while Scarlett Johansson is playing Dent’s wife, Gilda. That could lead to an adaptation of ‘The Long Halloween’ comic book arc, which would be pretty special.

The Penguin

2024

One of the many positives to come from Matt Reeves’ superb study of Gotham City in The Batman is that it gave us Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb. His transformative performance as the crime boss led to The Penguin, a TV show that simultaneously leaned into the best parts of the film while offering fresh new angles to the complex villain.

Development of the second season is underway as we speak, although there is no firm release date in place at this stage. After the shocking conclusion of the first season, it’ll be interesting to see which direction they take the character next. It’s just a shame Cristin Milioti is not set to return as Sofia Falcone.

As we mentioned before, it seems James Gunn is keen to get the ball rolling on his own version of Batman as part of the new DCU. Thankfully, The Brave and the Bold doesn’t look like it’s going to interfere with Reeves’ plans for The World's Greatest Detective, which means we’ll have two heroes to root for in separate corners of the franchise.

Andy Muschietti is set to direct the film, which has a tentative release window of 2028 as things stand. There is no cast in place just yet, but the story is expected to focus on Damian Wayne, Bruce’s troubled son.

Speaking of Bruce Wayne’s young wards, a Dynamic Duo movie is also in the works, which will centre around the friendship between Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. In Batman lore, they both take up the mantle of Robin, but they have very different styles of crimefighting and contrasting moral compasses, too.

Naturally, then, having the two of them together in this upcoming film will pose some compelling questions about the direction the two sidekicks will go in. Again, there’s no specific release date for the movie, but the project is in pre-production, with Arthur Mintz attached as director in what will be his feature debut.
