The 10-minute short, Tales of the Code: Wedlocked, acts as a filler between the fourth and fifth movies, dealing with a love triangle involving Jack Sparrow. The short film plays out for comedic purposes and doesn’t add much to the overall story. So it's not essential viewing for anybody that wants to follow the entire saga.

The franchise is filled with thrilling naval battles, hilarious chase sequences and fearsome villains like the near-immortal Davy Jones. Played by Bill Nighy, Davy Jones is a cursed tentacled pirate that anchors a ghost ship known as the Flying Dutchman. He is the arch-nemesis to both Jack Sparrow and his unlikely friends, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley). Other iconic Pirates of the Caribbean villains include Blackbeard (Ian McShane) in On Stranger Tides and the zombie captain Armando Salazar (Javier Bardem) in Dead Men Tell No Tales.
